QR withholding award seats from Qantas?

Can AFF reach out to QF to ask what is going on?
QF started releasing 2 award seats for flights to/from Aus airport a few months ago, then there was no availability on the QR network for a few weeks. It came back for a short period when Canberra flights launched and now everything is gone again... Is it IT issues and QF themselves don't even know it?
Did they realized they screwed up by giving out additional seat on Australian routes and regret it?? haha
There were never any issues getting 2+ seats out of SIN but they all disappeared as well. EK much the same.

Just had a look - yes, you're right that many QR seats are not currently showing on the AA website. This wasn't initially the case when the seats disappeared from the QF website but it does now look like the same seats that aren't showing on QF are also not showing on the AA website for the same dates etc.

Not sure if these seats would still be available over the phone with AAdvantage.

However, QR seats are still available on the JAL or BA websites, for example. So maybe it's a QF and AA issue?
Datapoint: Two days ago, I found J availability CDG-xDOH-MEL for March next year on BA's website. It wasn't visible on AA's website or app, but the AAdvantage call centre were able to book it for me: 85k + ~USD170 (which looks to be fairly normal for taxes out of CDG).

Nothing on QF website and compared to what taxes QF charge it is cheap. Ours going out for 2 was 1400aud + 318000pts!!

I am still seeing some J rewards ex CBR... Here's an example.

As has already been posted earlier in this thread, there are no QR J or F award seats available after mid-November 2022 and none at all after mid-April 2023. This has been the case for the past two weeks.

It's business as usual if you want to travel within the next 3 months or so (only).

Just speculating but perhaps the World Cup in November/December is creating some Wobblies? Doesn’t explain the later dates but it’s conceivable that QR have done some tweaks that have had some unintended consequences..?

No, it is a backend issue. You can book QR awards using other currencies past these dates (ie with BA Avios or AAdvantage via phone). My guess it is an unintentional system issue given that it affects Y & J/F seats at different cut-off dates. Hopefully it will be resolved in coming weeks.

SYD is correct about the lack of seats from mid November 2022. It is due to the World Cup. For l the past two years I was tracking award ticket releases on a daily basis. Once they got to 15th November 2022 they never released any seats for the duration of the World Cup.

That really doesn't explain anything. That's simply a blackout date, which have occurred since the Wright Brothers set up their frequent flyer program. What changed recently is the complete disappearance of all rewards flights on some oneworld programs, but not others, across the entire calendar from certain dates onwards.

Agree with that. I also continually start looking at availability once I make a decision on travel and always start c18mths out to see what it is like. Plenty of a a ex Asia

I agree. I start looking 18mths out to see how availability is and always plenty of seats ex Asia on EK QR AY KL UL JL CX...when I booked my QR J class ex MEL I managed to get 2 seats which is rarely there due to them normally only releasing 1 from O I had already booked to Santorini ex SIN so xxld that. Then I started looking at returns and again no availability issue coming back to at least Asia. Once my dates got closer absolutely nothing other than on BA and JL via NRT with the odd AF. Also found some LY to Asia. All I ever get get now are error messages when i go thru the multi city option. Get the first leg and then says something went wrong. Sometimes you get excited with a J showing so grab it, move to next page and they all disappear and only show a couple of Y class on different days. So probably phantom J but frustrating...we know the problem seems to be QF end so hopefully they fix it but by then all the seat options will be gone!!

I've been checking for QR flights for a possible upcoming rewards booking. It seems that QR classic awards are coming available (at least in economy) each day. They're releasing a few weeks behind normal though (yesterday, I saw 30 April 2023 became available, while today 1 May 2023 did)...

Used to be 360 days for Qatar. Hoping they come back online for business class soon but not holding my breath :(
Had two business class seats Syd to LHR in August 2020, booked through Qantas. Took months of planning, tracking and practicing. Was the hardest thing to press that cancel button when we realised covid wasn't going to allow the trip 😭 Just starting to look at doing a similar trip in August 2023 but it's slim pickings for award fares in business. Probably going to have to use our krisflyer and velocity points at this stage.
