Hi,

I will be doing a fair bit of flying with Qantas but the travel will be booked through the Commonwealth booking department - the itinerary shows up as going through QBT which presumably stands for Qantas Business Travel.

Do you earn status credits and FF points on such travel?

The prices really aren't any different to direct bookings.

Thanks,

Dale.

Re: Query on status credit and point earning on travel booked through Government with

QBT is just a booking agent, just like FCM, AMEX Travel or what ever else.

For points earning, I think it's all depending on the actual fare basis (not price), and which contract it is.

Dale if you're doing work for a government department or MP/Senator's office, you won't be getting points. You will, however, accrue status credits. Government J class shows up as J class, Y class shows up as Y class, but points don't show up.

Just as an example, a flight booking of mine - you can see fully flexible economy shows up as Y. In fact, lucky I went into the itinerary to copy this as FCM had managed to book my flight for the wrong day!

Just a word of caution about putting your booking reference on a forum rebekkap. Suggest you remove it for your own sake.

Re: Query on status credit and point earning on travel booked through Government with

I have had recent experience with QBT-booked travel (paid for by DIAC) - no points received, but I did get status credits.

Government travel policy is that you will NOT get frequent flyer points but they are unable to stop the issuing of status credits.

Government policy is that they allow status credits, probably to save on lounge memberships. I'm sure they could stop them if they really cared.

Re: Query on status credit and point earning on travel booked through Government with

While you are all being so helpful can you explain the government scheme (whole of government travel) to me? Do they actually have contracted prices for each route or the particular booking agency of which QBT is one just book the best available flexible fare?

Thanks,

Re: Query on status credit and point earning on travel booked through Government with

Can you get the points by crediting to AAnother programme?

Re: Query on status credit and point earning on travel booked through Government with

Hi,

Has anyone tried crediting points to another program? Eg I will swap out my QFF and put in my AAdvantage number.

Whoops - didn't mean to include it, but cancelled the booking anyway, so I don't see how someone could use it in any way?

Don't believe that will work - the fares have no points associated with them. If you fly on a fare class not eligible for points with AA you don't get points credited even if you put your QF FF number in, so I don't see why it would work the other way.

I don't believe they have contracted prices for each route - you get a range of options if you log in to the online booking system.

If your flight is paid for by the government you're not entitled to FF points regardless of who you credit to. If for some reason you do receive points and do not take all reasonable steps to get them removed then you may be in breach of the policies of whoever is paying for your airfare and possibly even the FMA Act.

Thanks,

Are you sure that your tickets are booked under Gov fares? Because the prices available for Gov travel is something I wish I could access for private travel, particularly the flexible fare prices (points or not points).

For example, CBR-SYD next Monday morning:

QF.com:

VA.com:

Gov (+$17.95 booking fee):

Unless you're talking about international fares, then your right, there's no price difference at all on QF. But on SQ though...

Re: Query on status credit and point earning on travel booked through Government with

For example the fares they have booked for 2 people Hobart Melbourne return with only 1 person for one leg in business and the other 3 legs in economy total 1800 - direct Qantas can do much better than that. It was booked through QBT. 8.55am flight from Hobart to Melbourne on 17 July - one business and one economy. Mel to HBA on 18 July 6.05pm 2 economy seats.

I can't disclose the Department but maybe they have booked wrongly.
