Question about the forum software

I rarely log on as I choose the "Remember?" option.

If I need to access with logging on I use IE (with wich I do not use the "Remember?" option).

This is what I do on my personal machines. I still got the error 3 times last night after opening a new IE window and clicking on the AFF link stored in my favourites....

Is it possible to have added next to the OP's handle under a thread, the date it was started? I find this quite handy when using FT.

Using our version of VBulletin and our custom templates, its not that easy.

Sorry :(

I like the look of the new version of the forum software.

So far works quite well with IE7 but I have noticed one glitch when using IE6 the webpage does not resize to fit the size of the window. The only way around this is to have a full size IE6 window at all times which is not my preference. I had no issues with webpage resizing with the previous version of the forum software.

As this is a work computer I have no control over the installation of the browser used other than swapping to Firefox. Any clues as to how I can get around the resizing issue in IE6?

I note the search bug I've posted about before (where you search for something in a multi-page thread, and clicking on the search results doesn't goto the correct post) seems to be fixed.

:)

I'd like to see the "Today's Posts" link brought back to its previously prominent position, rather than hiding under "Quick Links"

Otherwise, I like the new look.

I'd say the best bet would be to use Firefox. The old versions of IE rendered pages in their own little way, and now that browsers like Firefox, Safari, Chrome and others are coming out, coding websites well, as oppose to, for IE, seems to be the norm.

Unless the latest forum software update introduced this as a bug, I doubt the next point release will include a fix to it. Then again you never know, but the next point release could be months away, or tomorrow.

Since we are using 3.8.1, the latest version was released at the end of last month and is 3.8.2 but doesn't include any notes on fixing IE6 issues.

I find New Posts does the job quite well.

There was no problem with resizing the window in the previous version of the forum software. Will stick with Internet Explorer for now as I have been using this for a long time and I am not comfortable with change. What ever happened to Altavista?

Sometimes today's posts is a good feature especially if you have read a thread recently and you want to go back to it and it not longer appears in New posts....

I recall Altavista as a search engine, rather than a browser? In fact I think it was the best one (at least that I was aware of) prior to Google.
Yes it was a search engine. I preferred using it and in my opinion it was quite good. It went from very popular to nowhere almost overnight....

Yahoo acquired Altavista in 2003.

The last popular part of Altavista to be branded under that name, "Babelfish" was renamed under "Yahoo" about a year ago.

AltaVista still exists, but is really a plain cloaked yahoo.

The New Posts was in a better place on the old software and now its stuck half way along the top line; that button is fantastic; it is just harder to find for a new user; who uses User CP anyway; I don't

Why does the square where your user name is have to be in blue; couldn't it just be white;

And whats with the big Circle or moon shape where community is;

And the look reminds me of Flyertalk: I come here to get away from that place.

And another thing why do all the community meets and social events why do we need a list via month of the previous meetings there weren't that many anyway.

I noticed after a few weeks away from the forum that when I am logged in I now see an advertizement every few posts for bigpond news.

It has the following blurb under the ad " Registered Users have the option of removing this and all other advertisements. More "

As I am a registered user and I am logged in this is annoying. When I click on more it takes me to a page where I can enter my email address and subscribe. Any other members experiencing this ? Any ways to get rid of this ?

I believe what it really should state is " Registered Gold and Silver members have the option ...".

If you upgrade your membership those adds will no longer appear. It costs $35PA to upgrade to Silver and $50PA for gold.

There are other benefits with upgrading however, more here:
