Question about the forum software

We did make a small change to the software earlier today. The new format requires your screen resolution to be set to 1024 x 768 pixels (a fairly common standard these days) to get the full screen without the need for the scrollbar.

Anyway, I've just made another modification. Hopefully that will correct things.
Hi, that's the resolution I use at home; 'tis a balance of seeing as much infomation as possible on the screen against the abilty to ascertain the contents with one ageing eyes. :?

Anyway, it's working fine now; thanx... :D

I am using 1024 x 768 pixels and I still have to use the scrollbar. :?

Arghhh! Only way to get around the issue is to maximize the browser to full screen size when using AFF but I don't like doing that as I like to see multiple browser windows cascaded on the screen at once. Call mne old fashioned but that is what I am used to seeing. Back to the drawing board. :?

Even when displaying the posts in a thread and using the full screen browser mode on my laptop the posts are displaying on the right hand side of the screen with a lot of white space on the left.

When typing a reply to a post and you resize window the data on screen resizes. When you display a post and you resize screen the data on screen does not resize but moves to the right with white space on the left. This is weird. There is something wrong here and it is not my imagination! Am I missing a setting somewhere? Is this how it displays for everyone else?

This is weird. There has got to be a way to change this! Am I missing a setting somewhere? Is this how it displays for everyone else?

I get a vertical banner advert on the Left Hand side, with the forums on the right.

I suspect you may have some ad-blocking software installed.

Personally, I think the ads on the left are a bad idea - they should be on the right hand side IMHO. I don't knock Admin for doing it (everyone is entitled to make money/recover costs), but I do see them as too "in your face".

I don't know I am lost. I can see ads on the left hand side but not all the way down the page. There is a lot of white space on the left.

Displaying the forums is OK, displaying all posts since last visit is OK, editing, creating, replying to a post is OK.

It is not OK when I display a post. Everything is shifted to the right. Oh well!

If the advertisments are on the Right; they can be ignored wich is not what advertising executives want, so they prefer them on the left.

What they do not realise is that they become annoying, with issues like we are having with this in needing to scroll to view the posts. As a result I for one, will be less likely to use the product advertised; so nyah nyah to Budget; they will never see me take a '4th Free Day' or use their services in the near future, if ever. :x

I use 1024x768, but always have the Bookmarks/Favourites panel open on the left of my browser, so my actual page viewing size is more like 850x768. So anything that displays 1024 wide will require scrolling to the right for me to view the extremity.

Sorry. I'm really no help here as I use 1152 X 864 on a 19in monitor. Possibly explains why I have no problems. 8) :D

I agree with you. I am very annoyed having to scroll to view the post.

I know advertising is required but at what cost?

I'm having problems now too. :( I normally have my browser windows set to non-maximised (like JohnK), but I can't do that any more on my laptop (resolution 1024x768) without scrolling left/right. When I dock my laptop at the office and use my 17" flat panel screen, it is OK.

On the thread titled "Malaysia Airlines", even with the screen maximised, I still have to scroll. This is a real PITA. :(

I also agree that it would be helpful if the vertical advertisement could be placed to the right of the thread pages rather than the left.

IME (personal) issues like that can really turn one off the product being advertised.

About a year ago in FT, there were regularly 3 MacroMedia Flash ads to the top, left and bottom of FT thread pages. These were CPU hungry enough that my home PC (850mhz) would grind to a halt, making browsing impossible until I could set the 'quality' of each ad to "Low". :x

To do this I had to right click each add, wait for the flash menu to appear then select "Quality", then select "Low". I had to do this three times for EVERY new page I wanted to look at. An absolute PITA!

These ads were selling animated smilies; I still cringe whenever I see these ads, and resolved NEVER to use them. If I get an EMail from someone including them I have to strain really hard to overcome my instant urge to immedialty delete, unread!

Yes indeed! Thanks Admin! :D
Certainly great, thanx Clifford..

Wow! Thanks Clifford I can now view posts again without scrolling to the right on every post.

Now if only you can do something to stop my laptop from freezing or rebooting of it's own accord every 15 minutes I would really appreciate it. :)

Remove the QF AVOD simulator software from your laptop.

LMAO!!!

Instead of receiving "Page not found" errors, the simulator pops up the following message:
"Your program has been been paused while we make an announcement in another cabin". :o

The ads have returned to the left side of the browser again which means that I have to scroll to right to read a post any thread. :(

Not sure about ads, but I found some links that used to be at the top of the page over on the left now. And User Control Panel is a much better name for a link than User CP!!
