First stop the next day was the village of Geddington. The site of the best preserved Eleanor Cross. Back in 1290 the wife of Edward 1 died in the north. It took 12 days to bring her body back to London. At every nights stop he erected a cross. Only 3 rremaiin. This one in Geddington is said to be the best remaining.

Fortunately we were able to leave Geddington by a different road as coming in we had to ford a river and the Mercedes was rather low to the ground.
The next stop was Peterborough. A few pics walking from our parking spot to the Cathedral.

We next stopped at Kings Lynn. A lot of history and old buildings. Got an hours free parking on the promenade of the Great Ouse river giving us time to walk around a bit.

There was to be a memorial service for Her Majesty the next day. They were setting out hundreds of extra chairs. I asked one of the volunteers if they were expecting a huge crowd. He said that it was the Queen’s wish that there be a memorial service in Kings Lynn and that the staff of Clarence House should be invited. He said that many of the staff were coming.

The last of Kings Lynn.
Across the river a paper factory.

It was also a place that a whaling fleet called home though the whaling was carried out of Norway.

Now it was off to Swaffam to try our first Mr and Mrs Smith hotel. We were a little early so walked around the village. As it has been every day in England it was very cold.
First we started at the church. The ducks were all
asleep and didn’t stir as we walked past.

There was a sitting room as well. Dog wallpaper is a little too much. The room was called Erie after one of the owners dogs.

The restaurant was in a separate building. But at least it came with a car park view.

That was very nice. After that I had the tomato tart which was nice but Mrsdrron had the chocolate tart with cream as she was full after our starter.
