My afternoon started with an excellent QF sector SYD-MEL, spent enjoying a beer and staring out the window.

But now I'm sitting 'Skybus.' It started as we left the terminal and the over-excited narrator introduced us to Skybus TV (you know the internal groan - 'this isnt going to be good'). Now I'm listening to the Melbourne city tips brought to me by Grays pharmac_, "my truly local specialist.' Really insightful stuff. Thankfully this tediousness is broken up by slight variations of the same Webjet ad. What a relief...

It's not a long ride, but is this how we introduce people to our second biggest city?

(FYI, the Skybus TV narrator just set the world record for the saying the words 'sky' and 'bus' in a half-hour period.)

You watch the Skybus TV? Normally I'll put the headphones on and look out the window. I'll prob also surf the web on the iPad.
I didn't think anyone actually watched the TV's...

It's been 2 years... but I always watched the TV when I took it into town as it usually gave me some useful information about what's happening. Agree, would be a little tedious several times over, especially if you live there, but it's a business, they sell advertising, big deal?

There is always the non advertising option - a cab!

I tried Starbus for the first time on the Monday of the MEL airport taxi blockade and was very pleased with the service. So I chose that way to go home at the end of my trip, instead of my usual taxi. No TV, no advertisements, no chatty driver - just the way I like it. Thanks to whoever it was here who recommended it.

A good reason to always have those noise cancelling headphones on you!!

I enjoy sitting on the bus with my noise cancelling headphones watching episodes of Air Crash Investigation on Foxtel Go.

(which reminds me, I'd better go charge them for tomorrow's flight).

Add me to the list of those who detest the Skybus video. Nauseating - and so loud. By comparison, the airport trains in Sydney and Brisbane are heaven.

.

Can that somehow be streamed to the video screens.. Just for the 'educational" value....

After a hundred or more tips on it I don't notice the video any more.

Carrie was with watching for a bit ...

The last couple of times I have been on the bus they havent played it.

But yes, just get headphones and attach it to a media player.

And if playing that video reduces the price, I am all for it

What annoys me is that it costs about $30 for a return Skybus ticket - and how far are we actually travelling? I mean, it's less than half of that for a return train trip from Geelong to Melbourne, or about the same as an el cheapo TT/JQ fare to SYD. Or a nice meal down at Southbank.

In comparison, the bus from the airport to downtown HEL (a place notorious for being 'HELlishly' expensive) is only about €4.

Or maybe I'm just being too stingy?

Within a couple of weeks the bus stop for the 901 bus to and from Broady rail station will be moving to be at the far end of the QANTAS terminal. Not perfect, but far less walking than at present from Virgin, Int or QANTAS terminals.

Will this be another short term move, or actually forever (ie: less distsnce to walk, nothing to do with roadworks! )

The Finnair bus is now €6.30...
I buy at least 15 return Skybus tickets each year and I wish they would sell booklets of 10 or 20 return tickets with a 20 or 30% reduction like some other airports in the world for their frequent travelers.

A 10 trip ticket is $130....
