Go cards allow you to go into negative.
You have a valid ticket for the trip, but you're supposed to pay when you top up the card again.

So basically there is a free T bus from BNEd to Airport village (near Woolworths).
From Airport village you take the 369 to Eagle Junction train station.
Eagle Junction train to the city.
This method is a lot cheaper than airtrain even if you pay a cash fare.

Yes, I've seen this too. I think it cuts out around 6 pm though.

So this confirms MEL to be the most rip-off Airport in Australia in terms of getting to the CBD.

There is a bus that takes you to Broadmeadows or another one that I think takes you to Essendon? (I think) train station and then you take the train to the city. You just use your myki card. There is a post on AFF about public transport options to MEL and IIRC they have even moved the bus stop closer to the terminal as it used to be out near the TT terminal.

901 airport bus which starts in Frankston is one of the bus numbers.

I thought I heard the go card 'trick' was on their radar from the CM and may be stopped.

But I hate Skybus, so uncomfortable. Train would be much better.

Yeah they have done what they can - stopped the sale of go cards with $5- minimum from the machine - you can only buy over the desk with minimum $30 or $35 on them now from the airport. They also have people watching you touch off, though I still havent been stopped by any of them when my balance clearly hits -$15

I have some horrible go card related news - they are now charging $10 deposit for the card alone. Something I found out today when I went to get a bus but had left my go card in Melbourne... If you're going to airtrain and maybe one other train and bus a go card is no longer worth it.
