I think the worst part is that they don't count passengers or monitor luggage....

More than once I've been stuck without a seat which is fine on a tram but not when on a bus going 100kmph in 'rally driving' style.

The 50kg suitcases people travel with are also not secured and I've been squashed before. If they can pay a little more attention to this then overall I think it's a good option.

From my experience they do count the passengers but I agree about the luggage.

Last year I was there it was clear people couldn't read the sign right in front of them that stated how the luggage was supposed to be stored, very annoying. Though I did notice the one large bag limit online and had to email to find if my second large bag would be OK on the return trip to the airport, lucky the lady who replied said it would be fine.

Pretty sure the rear of the bus got airborne on today's trip to airport. Those Around me all let out a gasp of fright :)

Done Skybus once return - I agree with the rest of you, plugged in my headphones and looked out the window...
No problemo :) Had minimal luggage, and to avoid anyone sitting next to me in the front row, I just had my bags close to me

I always try to put the headphones in, though sometimes the bus speakers are too loud, and prevent me from hearing my music properly. It also makes it almost impossible to conduct a phone call, as you can barely hear your phone, and the callee can barely hear you. No, I don't make a habit of using phones on PT (as it can annoy others), but there are times that calls just need to be made. :)

It's not always that loud, but it can get rather annoying!

On the few times that I've actually heard the video, it mentioned a booklet of vouchers for various Melbourne attractions. The funny thing is that I've *never* seen any on the bus (the document holders have always been empty). YMMV!

Overall though, it's not terrible for the HSW, as it's within walking distance if it's not raining and you don't have much luggage (it saves waiting for the hotel shuttle that drives around in circles before arriving at your hotel). :)

Skybus is heaven compared to dealing with Melbourne cabbies.... And like others, I just tune out and enjoy the ride.

You are right, just checked their website. For some reason you can't buy it online so it's not in the drop down menu. Thanks!
I think it's because they're concerned with the durability of a printed-at-home ticket. When you buy it from the counter it's printed on normal ticket stock, but they "laminate" it with a clear sticker that does significantly improve the durability.

They have twelve month validity - the heat sensitive material ("paper") they print it on does not always have a long life.

I go through about 3 a year - once one carked it in 3 weeks after four uses, even with the laminat - the last being problematic (manually keyed number) - they replaced it with six single tickets in lieu of the remaining trips.

I guess it depends to some extent where you are seated, but I am generally almost unaware the TV is even on, and tune out and browse AFF/FB/whatever on my phone.

If I'm forced to it in the back due to lack of seating I can't read my phone as I get motion sick in the back. it swings around way too much.

I can't stand the stupid TV's - they are hideous, I'd rather have some gentle music playing.

I am a massive skybus fan. I live on the 86 tram line, which takes me direct to the terminal, and skybus direct to the airport. Its cheap, regular and quick and beats a hotel transfer shuttle bus any day of the week. With Brisbane's airtrain departing basically every hour at the cost of your right arm; i had to wait 25 mins at 5pm for it to depart, at $30 a ticket, and then was delayed again - skybus really wins in my opinion.

Skybus is a good place to write my trip reports from. On my trip to the airport yesterday, They had no picture on the screens but sound.

On the other hand, Darwin's shuttle has video only & no audio which I think might be better.

If you search AFF for public transport Brisbane you may find that there are cheaper options involving bus and train transfers that will not cost as much as Brisbane Airtrain. YMMV depending on what time you arrive into BNE.

Hths.

Yeah I know, I used to live there. The only reason I continue to airtrain is my hotel is at valley station, and so are my friends apartments. It's easy, but it's not cheap or quick!

There is also the old go-card trick haha

Yes and there is a free bus shuttle to where the Woolworths is (5 mins from airport). From there you connect to a bus that can take you to a nearby train station, you then connect to a train that takes you to the city. I don't know BNE that well but there are two connecting buses but I am not exactly sure where the other one goes.

So basically there is a free T bus from BNEd to Airport village (near Woolworths).
From Airport village you take the 369 to Eagle Junction train station.
Eagle Junction train to the city.
This method is a lot cheaper than airtrain even if you pay a cash fare.
