Tried the oxtail for lunch today and I've gotta say, this is the first one I've actually been disappointed with, especially considering it was by far the most expensive. I found that not only was $10.99 for 4 pieces of meat poor value, but it was mostly bone and fat/grizzle, with a bit of meat on each one. The taste was okay but nothing special. They should have gone with the duck on this one.

That sounds really gross. Obviously no quality control. I would take it back and complain if it was really bad.

It mentions the so-called refund and replace guarantee on the packaging but considering I've already heated up and eaten the contents (except for what was thrown out - which was quite a lot) I don't know if I can really return an empty box.

I think you would need to bring along some of the rubbish. If something is bad enough, that is what I have done. We once had pork that was green! It stank - this was from Coles. They refused to let me lift off the gladwrap!
 
First time it's been half price in Northbridge (that I've seen).

They quite often don't advertise the sale price. I've taken to grabbing what I want and heading to self service where I scan them and see if there's a discount, then head back to do my shopping/choose.

Someone else said try need scanning points, and it's true. If you don't advertise the correct price you'll more often than not lose a sale.

"Ramsay knows his jangles are a great party food" - sounds so sus.

The goat sausages seemed interesting, and considering oxtail won last week because it wasn't seen much, I thought it might be a bigger contender.

The meat balls seemed boring by comparison. Asian style though, not Swedish.

Considering how well previous hot dishes have gone, I didn't think Té Té's (Vinny's) was going to make it, despite looking quite interesting. He had both a mild and hot version, at least in the kitchen.

Horton's Jangles (meat balls) won. At least you'd think it should be cheap. The box looks like it should be in the freezer section.

Next week is the final. We find out who's won.

The pack includes 15 meat balls, which are 1/3 chicken, 1/3 pork and the rest filler. The pack also contains a packet of sweet chilli sauce. All you need is an oven set to 200º and about 15 minutes (I found it took slightly longer than noted on the box).

The taste was really good, both with and without the sweet chilli, so it's not included to disguise anything. They're also really filling. There's definitely a Thai influence, it's a lovely taste.

I'd say they are great value compared to previous weeks, and a real contender in the competition. I'll definitely be stocking up for parties over the summer period.

Are the jangles gluten free? (Or do they have wheat in them?)
 
I went past the Jangles today at McArthur Central in BNE and either they had just restocked the freezer or they have only sold two packs, interesting to note the rib sauce was relocated to both an aisle spot in the sauces and also in the fresh meat cooler!
 
Ok I tried the frozen pizza base tonight. Absolutely pathetic. I tried last night and left the dough out to thaw, it exploded sending dough everywhere and scared the bejesus out of the cat.

So today I took it out of the wrapper and let it thaw. One thawed I tried to roll it flat but it kept getting holes in it. Eventually I got it spread out enough to put on the sauce and toppings on it. Put it in the oven and cooked it until done. Taste of dough was bland and heavy and way too much work involved.

Much easier to get a pre-formed base and put my toppings on it.

I have made around 10 or so now and got to say its easy (so long as you put some flour on the surface where you are rolling), just finished a very nice Calzone from the same said base, at $3.75 for two + 50 points, I am happy. Now to go for a long walk.
 
We found the Jangles to be too lemongrassy for our taste. The texture was good though - not rubbery.
 
I have just bought a few packs. Good grief, the places where Woolies are hiding these is ridiculous! I had to ask for them as they were not in the meals freezer but located at the opposite end of the store.

Yes. I know exactly what you mean having cooked the first batch. Ok for us but there is a definite flavour of it there. They do cook up nicely though.

This is the only "R 2 R " product I have bought - and after trying this I wouldn't buy another one.

If the meat was "slow cooked for 10 hours" it would have been tender. Mine was tough, there was only 3 pieces - which I would call a serving for one. There was way too much sauce and it was far too liquid - it need to be reduced much further - another sign it had NOT been cooked for the stated 10 hours ! The only good thing was the sauce had a good flavour - probably due to all that saturated fat ! :shock: I certainly wouldn't even buy this again even if was half price.
 
The chocolate biscuits were wonderful :). Hate to think of the calories.

I'm just not a fan of pre cooked food either.
