Record for most SCs in a year

10,880 SC's last year across QF, BA, AA, JL, RJ, JQ, CX, KA and LA. Other airlines used include EI, 9W, FJ, DL, B6, UA, AI, SQ. 2 months into this year and currently sitting at 2,160 SC's. Averaging a little over 1,000 SC's per month. At a stretch may get to P1 after 3 months. Estimating 12,000+ SC's for the upcoming year. Domestic, Trans Tasman and International travel less than 8hrs is in Y. Anything greater than 8hrs is in J. Achieved LTG 8 years ago. Looking for QF to introduce LifeTime Platinum or LifeTime P1.

Yikes 1000 SC's a month! Suffice to say, you must either live at an airport, or very close to one...

Goodness. DNW. That doesn't sound like much fun at all. Do you enjoy Y travel or do you find it as uncomfortable as the rest of us?

I would assume your FF points balance would be in the millions? Do you not use your points to upgrade given when you have time off the last thing you probably feel like doing is flying for leisure?

Domestic Y is fine with an aisle seat for anything less than a few hours such as SYD-AKL. Making last minute changes can make things challenging especially being given Seat 4E on the 738's. You get to know your friends in 4D and 4F a little too well.

As for using points I tend not to use them for upgrades. I'm currently running a 25% success rate for an op-up from J to F where F is available on QF metal. I tend to hoarde as many FF points as I can as these are the one thing I can "give" back to my family for all the missed birthdays, anniversary's and significant events. As the points are accruing at around 100K+ per month we've managed to get the family of 5 on QF SYD-DFW (J), AA MIA-LHR (J) and QF LHR-SYD(F) for just on 1.82m points. We will be leaving SYD in the week before Xmas and return just prior to Australia Day so we were lucky with availability.

Wow, that's a lot of travel. I'd sure miss my family, thats for sure.

Question for Jobu and ChrisGibbs.

When you travel DOM Y (or Y in general), how often do you get a QF freebie op-up?

In my experience there are less examples of op-up's in the domestic network. For example I did yesterday's QF401 and QF442 daily double SYD-MEL-SYD. The QF401 763 service had a large number of vacant seats in both J as well as Y. No op-up was given. The return 738 service was full in both J and Y with no op-up. The op-up's I've received on the Trans Tasman flights are when Y is typically full or nearly full. The op-ups from J to F on the international sectors appear to happen more often and don't necessarily correlate to a full J cabin.

Chris, you certainly fly a lot it seems, which might explain the low post count on AFF, you're "off the radar" too much :D

Jobu... Crazy.
I assume the First lounge staff know you very well.

Any idea on your lifetime total SCs

I know the F staff in LHR and SIN very well, they are all great and I was sad to see that some left or were retrenched when QF consolidated their LHR flights.

I will have to come back to you on life time SCs as I stopped getting paper statements from QF but should be able to work it out when I get my laptop.

How do you retain your sanity? 1000 hours in the air is just extraordinary.

You're making a big assumption there ;)

ChrisGibbs, you made my day, I'm not alone!

Yes my family is what I miss most and part of the reason I have a lot of flights, to get back home.

I haven't been upgraded on a domestic flight for years, but have had a few upgrades to F on international flights in the last year.

Got any jobs for IP Networking gurus that you'd like to offer me to help you share your SC burden? Am happy to fly in Y+ even ;)

Be careful what you wish for, I've hired a few people who got a bit more than they bargained for... :)

For completeness, finished with 11,550 status credits for the year.

GEEPERS!

Was that mainly international J/F flying?
I can't imagine doing 1,155 MEL-SYD trips in discount Y

Ha ha, that's just over 3 one way flights every single day of the year. Might as well sell the home and move into the lounge!

I agree. Over 130 flights, almost 1000 hours in the air!

That is almost 3 hours in the air (on average) each day. Somewhere between 1/9th and 1/8th of your time in the air.

Has anyone calculated what the theoretically limit for SCs in a year would be? I suspect it would be around 100,000 SCs.

That's par for the course in my industry. If you start a new job that delivers what it promises, it means get out, get out now! ;)

So when do I start? ;)

Too bad there is no such thing as transferring SC's to family members* (like it is allowed with points). You can happily offload some of your excess SCs, say for $1 each and I don't need to head to the USA for some status runs ;)

* yes we can be cousins for this purpose ;)

1805 so far, but that's for 2 months. Counter restarted 1st June. Will bring to 2200 after next week. Need to spend a few weeks at home
