Thanks, not what I wanted to hear, but what I thought.
I've thought of another way of splitting the SCs more efficiently though, thanks to notzac's confirmation that I can change Family Pooling arrangements as often as I like.
The 560 SCs coming from EY in April are from myself and my daughter flying together (well actually the whole family is travelling, but the others are on award tickets, while myself and my daughter are on paid J fares - one way). If I change the family pooling set-up before that trip, so my daughter's points and SCs pool to my wife, while mine stay with me, it would mean my wife and I would both net 280 SCs from that trip. That would put me on 960 SCs. I could then continue to stay out of the family pool until I hit 1000 SCs. Once I get to 1000 SCs, I could start pooling to my wife as well. By taking that approach, I can ensure that I don't earn any more than 1000 SCs until I hit Platinum, and therefore I won't "waste" any of those valuable SCs. By the time I make it to Platinum, my wife should have attained Gold (or be very close to doing so), and then I can start directing all of my family's SCs back to myself to try and retain Platinum. Does this logic hold together?
