First time post!

I have a $600 voucher with Qantas that expires next month, the result of a Red e Deal fare that I cancelled last year. I don't have need to travel with Qantas before expiry but similarly don't want to make Qantas $600 richer. Would the following work?

Book a $725 fully refundable one way BNE SYD Business Fare using the voucher. To do so I would have to pay a $99 (I think) change fee. Then, before the day of travel cancel the fare for a cash refund. Would this work or is the Qantas system smart enough to recognise I paid for the Business Fare using a voucher and put me back to where I started?

Thanks

Not to fully answer, but is it that you have to book and travel, or can you book then travel in the following 12 months?

If you are going to lose the credit then just book to go somewhere for the weekend.

Mrs GPH wants to know if it's possible to buy vouchers on the QF NZ site ( in NZD)?

I believe only AUD available and booking has to be ex Australia unless you can get call centre to book it for you.

You won't get a cash refund out of the voucher - the original conditions and expiry date of the voucher would remain and it would be, I presume, reissued... not cash.

Basically QF has your cash now so you should use it or yes, it will be lost.

Are you able to book in someone else's' name that you could 'gift' it to?

I'm pretty sure once a voucher is issued in a person's name there's no name changes allowed....

... of course for a purely domestic trip this doesn't matter so much as ID's are never checked so someone could fly under another person's name if need be (not that I am advocating this as it's technically a breach of the rules and may be considered fraud of some sort, though in this case I reckon not).

I thought that you were able to book and then on the last page change the name to the passenger if it is different to the name on the voucher? why don't you try it and see?

That's the process for a gift voucher, AFAIK. But the voucher in this case not a gift voucher. I'm not sure the same rules apply.
