Reduction in Transfer Rates to Velocity/Krisflyer

Just on the phone to citibank, and it looks like the changes were effective from 1/11/15 and are here to stay. I've escalated it up the chain so we'll see if anyone actually calls me back.

I've got their comp limo transfer and free night coming up at the end of Nov, so I'll be cancelling after that.

What was the tone? Too bad?

Pretty much. I didn't push very far with the initial contact, once I stated my complaint she was keen to "escalate" to a manager. She did admit we are entitled to notification. I'll chase it up again in 24-48 hours. FOS complaint looks like the way to go if I don't hear anything back.

Not happy at all! Thought something was up when virgin excluded Citi transfer eligibility from their latest 15% bonus offer.

Right ol' bummer hey? Typical of Citi as they have pulled this stunt before - I think it may require mass FOS complaints so best we all head down that path should Citi not address this unilateral decision.

OK, thanks for the heads up guys. I have approx 500000 Citi Rewards sitting there so clearly this is highly annoying for me.

I have just got off the phone with them where I made my displeasure manifestly clear. As a gesture of "good faith" the Citi supervisor I talked to has put in a request to transfer my points at the old rate. I am to call her back in a day or two (name and extension given) to confirm.

"Citibank" and "good faith": the two don't really fit in the same sentence very well.

I was going to ring Citi today as my annual fee just got charged last week for the prestige. I won't be keen to keep paying for this card on these earn rates. Rather peed that I have 2m + points sitting there that are now worth a lot less, so will see if I can get the request to transfer at the old rate too.

I transferred about 150k across to VA a few weeks ago, so I'm fine there, but still had 80k more to send to SQ. Yet another person they're going to get a call from

I'm going to call them now as well. So much for warehousing them with Citi anymore.

Citi I cannot believe you've done it again after the ATO fiasco. I received a new T+c's booklet the other month but I have it at home and not with me so I cannot check it but just got this off the web site

3.6.4. We may change the Points Transfer program rules including participation of travel loyalty program providers, regulations, policies, benefits, conditions of participation or points/mileage levels (if applicable), in whole or in part at any time with or without notice.

My bold and underlined.....Cove I need those titanium scissors !!!! again. GRRRRRR!!!!!!!

That is really poor form Citibank!!

Surely they need to give the notice before any change!

Hmm, I'm reading that we have 90 days from 6.2 in this link, as posted earlier in the thread.

Reply from Citi FB page:

We regularly review the rewards program and the cost of rewards made available in the program. From 1ST Nov 2015, transfers to Velocity or Krisflyer programs have been changed based on recent review. We have notified our customers on our rewards website at the time you redeem your Reward. For further details, you can contact us on 13 24 84 at any time.

Yup right there in their own terms.

Just spoke to Citi. Told them I'm not happy and if they could honour the old rate and that I was given no advance notice. They said they couldn't as the system will not allow them once a new rate has been programmed in (this was mentioned a few times). I asked for a supervisor, she said a letter has been sent yesterday about the changes and once again the system will not allow them to honour the old rate, I reiterated about them not giving some advance notice and some basic customer service and that I will be taking my business elsewhere and to pass it on to the relevant department which she said she would (Credit Card Rewards).

She said she could give me 5000 points to help out, which I said didn't even cover the devaluation of my points I wanted to transfer to SQ for an upcoming holiday.

So now I will likely transfer my points at the devalued rate over to Singapore and keep them there and then decide what I'm going to go with my CC. Push more through my Plat Amex I guess.

Someone just posted that to them on Facebook. Be interested to see their response.

Couldn't get through to the supervisor again, but as posted above, have put in a request to transfer at the old rate (subject to approval) with a name and extension number of the person I was talking to. Will just have to wait and see now...

I'm off overseas in a month, will keep Citi for that as they're still the best Visa for foreign currency spend and points - 2.5 Velocity/Kris points per AUD.
