I am looking for 2,OneWorld J Award seats from Melbourne to Rome/Paris and back for July/August next year.
There is minimal availability at present so I am interested in others experience of when different One World airlines might release more J award seats.
Do CX, QR, MH have any particular times that they are more likely to release more seats eg six months out, last month ? Has there been any pattern in the past for high season seat release?

CX releases a ton of unsold inventory about 1 month before flying. Check now for flights in October and you'll see quite a fair bit. Not unusual to look for July space now and see zilch, but then in June you'll see them release 6 seats for award booking for July.

Better to let them get redeemed for points than go out empty.

CX, QF and MH all currently have staged seat releasing beginning from 9 months out.
Many factors involved and there is no hard and fast rule where one airline will release X seats on Y given date.

There are two important notes to consider.
1) Every airline is different, and their tactics/policies for award seat releasing does and will continue to change over time
2) The material you find posted on blogger sites is monitored by airlines personnel. Chances are, this information is no longer accurate if posted online.

CX stage releases on a monthly/weekly/daily basis approaching departure date.
What's important to note is that Asia Miles (CX host FFP) members will always receive access to more inventory than say QFF members to CX award flights.

Realistically you have three options.
1) Monitor flights and do daily searches yourself.
2) Trawl through 1000s of pages on this and other forums. Speak to airline rev, yield managers about award inventory to understand when and why seats may or may not be released.
3) Pay someone to find the seat.

Happy award seat hunting!
