After looking into the question this week, here's the information you'll need to request a status match to NZ:
Thank you for your email regarding Status Matching with Air New Zealand.
We do offer our members the ability to Status Match with other existing frequent flyer programmes. All we would need from you would be a;

  • scanned copy of your membership card,
  • statements showing your activity for the last 3 months, and
  • details of future bookings that you have with us.
Please feel free to scan and email the abovementioned documents to us at ResPremiumTeam [at] airnz [dot] co [dot] nz and we can pass this through to our Tier Status Co-ordinator for approval.

Out of curiosity, how long did it take from your email to the match occurring?

Thanks

3 days only for me. I guess it depends of papers you presented and for ANZ satisfaction.

How much in the way of future bookings (and for that matter, amount of past activity) triggers this? Or is it just a discretionary try and see what happens thing?

I sent an email on Thursday night, and received this on Friday evening:

Dear m_ratt, Thank you for your e-mail regarding a status match.
I have asked the Tier Status Manager to consider your request.
We usually like to see a booking on Air New Zealand.
We are joining frequent flyer programmes with Virgin Australia and Virgin Velocity Gold members will be able to use their Gold benefits when travelling on Air New Zealand. This is due to commence in November. You may wish to continue with Virgin Velocity in view of this.
It is a long weekend in New Zealand and the Manager will be back in the office on Tuesday now.

Unfortunately. the DJ / NZ tie up wasn't in place when I did SYD-WLG last week on NZ:(. Five months more to wait... Hopefully I'll get the LH status match in July to tie me over.

Fortunately managed to get QF back and I can assure everyone that WP still has benefits!

I didn't get any further email from AirNZ, though I logged into AirNZ yesterday to find I now had Gold status - very happy to see. I'll try it out tonight on US Airways (if they accept a printout of the AirNZ website showing my status).

Just wanted to let everyone know that this is still available. My Gold status match came through today.

Greg.

I'm not an Airpoints member, but just emailed regarding a Status Match to Qantas WP.

Lets see what happens, I'm planning on flying SYD-AKL-LAX return in Business next year.

Let me know how you go with that, I'm currently Gold with QFF, but will be WP on Thursday. I'm flying with AirNZ next month, so it would be good to get lounge access. I presume QF Gold = Airpoints Gold and WP = Gold Elite?!?

I'm hoping so,

I am flying to USA with a few friends on AirNZ (I haven't decided my carrier yet), and love the fact that Gold Elite can take 5 guests into the lounge. I'll only be guesting 3, but still will be awesome!

Worked for me, got a Status Match to Airports Gold from my QF WP. Though they've only given me till July 31 to retain it.

Had 2 domestic Air NZ flights booked and linked to my AirNZ profile when i submitted the request.

You got Gold, rather than Gold Eilte for WP?

When did you put in the request?

In 2009, I was matched to NZ GE being QP WP - I did need to get the full 1500 SP's to re-qualify rather than the 1350 SP target for those who earned their GE via BIS travel.

Emailed the request on Tuesday morning, logged into my Airpoints account Wednesday afternoon and it showed Gold Status.

A little disappointed they only matched me to Gold rather than Gold Elite, but it seems in line with other members in this forum who've applied for an AirNZ match recently. Happy that I got the 2 complementary Fare Upgrades, main reason i went for it.

Oh, and I only need 810 Status points to retain the Gold level.

Seems they do it differently these days.

I did not get the comp ugrades straight away - 1 at passing the Silver Level, another for passing the Gold level (900) and 2 for reaching Gold Elite (1500) - all as a Gold elite.

Sent an email on Friday morning requesting a match, got a reply confirming it the same day and logged in this morning to see my new status :)
