Re: A Platinum Flight for $1400

For anyone doing an SJU run, I recommend staying a few days if you can and seeing the place. There's a heap of history there, and whilst the weather can be oppressive for those like me who hate humidity, there's a lot to see.

I typically stay in Condado though. La Concha (A Renaissance property for those wanting hotel stays) is quite acceptable with a nice pool-side bar area. Also has a coin laundry on-site for catching up on those lengthy carry-on only runs ;)

My son and I had a quick overnight stay there. We stayed at Hilton and I regret not having organised the ticket to stay for a few days.

re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

Just wish I had the time to stay a while, although Mrs Diver would probably be a bit cross. A better organised trip next time, hopefully with a minion to do the actual conference bit in LAS, might mean I have a chance to do two runs.

Note that it is called a "run" for a reason... I probably can do two in a space of a few days, but that would push it I think (and I am a very comfortable and resilient flyer, which means most people would not be comfortable doing two runs too close to each other).

re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

It looks like AA has discontinued the LAS-ORD red-eye which is a big loss for these fares.

Can't remember what the red-eye was exactly but AA1056 on a 738 dep 1225 arr 0550 is effective as of DEC 6 and flies X234, so flies Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday (unless I'm reading the timetable wrong)

Good to know all is not lost.

You're correct, the redeye was AA1056. I received a change notification fronm AA last week as I had 2 of them booked for the middle of 2014, one departing on a Friday and one on a Monday - both have been cancelled and I'm now on direct redeye service to MIA (AA2390).

Are you able to change dates? I don't suppose an Original Routing Credit would really apply in this case, would it?

Hang on. So the LAS-ORD red-eye is gone?

I think one would be hard-pressed to get ORC if there was long notification but I guess it's worth a try.

re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

Looks like the red eye is dead. Just had a look for it on AA.com for the whole of July and can't find it.

Yes, gone from mid Feb onwards.

That's even better! lol
Same SCs but 1028 more flown miles or 2056 more points in return. A case of thank you cancellation?

Not overly worried about the extra miles but with the SC staying the same I'm happy. With the new routing also came a small bonus of an equipment change from a 738 to a 757.
Overall I'm better off with the dropped LAS-ORD as the LAS-MIA leaves at 11pm, an hour and a half earlier.

Can you really book a flight to MIA via MIA?

Generally if the fare rules allow, and some could. On situations such as schedule changes, rules can be ignored.

See this set of rules - two passes through LAS are possible:

re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

Can you really book a flight to MIA via MIA?

I wouldn't think so! However my routing continues onto SJU but that wasn't important in the context of the original topic of the AA1056 cancellation.

So what was your full routing?
LAS-MIA-LGA-MIA-SJU and in a single flight booking?

Yes that is part of it. The full details won't be disclosed publicly, sorry. PM me if you are after some routing assistance.

re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

Has anyone travelled SNA-DFW and credited to QF? I ask because GCM has it coming in at 1205 miles, cutting it fine!
