re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

Has anyone travelled SNA-DFW and credited to QF? I ask because GCM has it coming in at 1205 miles, cutting it fine!
See if you can book an award using QFF on that segment.

If it cost 18K in economy the the QF perceived distance it 1200+ miles and Zone 3. In wich case on AA a flight in F, A or P class should earn 120 SC's.

Great idea, thanks for the tip! Doesn't come up in the online classic award cities list this time, but definately will use this idea for other segments, thanks.

There are means - Orange County to Dallas Fort Worth is coming up as 18,000 points (+ USD2.50) in Economy.;)

Re: A Platinum Flight for $1400

+ fuel fines ... Then x 2 for the return, comes to AUD30+

Add up to an hour for total return transfer time and the airport hotel becomes a very interesting option for such short transits.

Agree - stayed at Airport Hotel last month and was good and functional after late arrival. Went to other hotel by the beach for rest of stay.

Re: A Platinum Flight for $1400

For anyone doing an SJU run, I recommend staying a few days if you can and seeing the place. There's a heap of history there, and whilst the weather can be oppressive for those like me who hate humidity, there's a lot to see.

I typically stay in Condado though. La Concha (A Renaissance property for those wanting hotel stays) is quite acceptable with a nice pool-side bar area. Also has a coin laundry on-site for catching up on those lengthy carry-on only runs ;)

I stayed in Condado last month and it was a good place to stop a few days. Stayed at the Raddison. Was fine but if stay there make sure you get a room on the side without the construction noise.

Re: A Platinum Flight for $1400

Can someone with a bit of spare time please help me out, by PM of course.

Basically I want to make a run at getting to Gold, silver isn't an issue.
I've got to get from BNE to New York on the Afternoon of September 21 and thought I could make a go of making silver. I have a few other QF Flights already booked and a PE DXB>HKG>BNE with CX. That's my base.

I've had a few (LOTS of) attempts at making some combinations but nothing that really jumps out at me.

My attempts so far have been with a Y flight to LAX/SFO with QF and then a YUPP combination from there. Flying into New York creates an issue but that's where I have to end up.

So looking at leaving any time from Fri Sep 19 and arriving the afternoon of Sun Sep 21. I don't have any points worth noting, maybe 11k.

Thanks for any suggestions. :D

I stay at La Concha, which is a Renaissance property. Had a beach view room which was lovely.

I suggest you look at a destination that is not a major hub, but near JFK. That may help generate some longer routings.

City pairs without direct flights can also yield more creative routings ;)

Thanks both of you, good hints and I spent a bit of time playing around again yesterday, found good route that would get me 500+ SC for about $1300 but its a long long day+ and I don't quite need that many SC.

I was hoping on the off chance someone would come in with a cheeky, oh I did this the other week, try this route  Happy to keep hunting myself, starting to get somewhere, just not exactly what I want yet.

re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise status

You're correct, the redeye was AA1056. I received a change notification fronm AA last week as I had 2 of them booked for the middle of 2014, one departing on a Friday and one on a Monday - both have been cancelled and I'm now on direct redeye service to MIA (AA2390).

Same thing happened to us. Will be in US late May, so doing a run for hubby with QF. Now with the cancellation of red eye LAS - ORD, he will get 90 sc less while I get 100 more with BA on going thru MIA.

You generally won't find people willing to rattle off entire routes, as they can tend to quickly disappear.

In that case, make sure hubby hold's on to all documentation (BP's, original itinerary, emails, etc) and apply for ORC after the run.

But we have not done the runs yet, can he claim sc for the original itin? AA emailed us to say our flights had changed and we would need to contact them. I have kept the emails of original and revised it ins. How can he apply to QF for sc for original itin?

You'll be fine. Happened to me when AA changed my separate LAS-LAX-SFO F flights to a single flight number (even though it stayed as two separate flights). I just sent a copy of the original itinerary as an attachment with the email to QFFF so they removed the 1 x 60 SC's for LAS-SFO and added in 2 x 60 for LAS-LAX and LAX-SFO.

Thanks, ncraig.

That is good to know. I will tell hubby, he will be happy that he can ask QFF for sc for the original itin.

Re: Researching/booking AA "Non-ref "/"Instant Upgrade"/"YUPP" fare to maximise statu

Friends

Even when you are happy with the routing, always pay to look again.

Recently, I was slightly concerned with a 50 min layover @ DFW (late Autumn, no snowstorm expected) so I elected to go back to have a second look and.... found another routing with more (layover) safety margin and a net gain of 60 SCs for only an additional $4.00

I was breathless [running from terminal to terminal - carry on only] on a number of occasions where the incoming plane was late making your time on the plane arriving at the changeover point became quite unpleasant with rising stress.

It is best to avoid tight connections if you could, esp with larger airports like ORD, DFW, LAX etc..
