Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I thought I might give an update on how this all turned out for me.
Qantas initially offered to let me keep Platinum for 120,000 points. Based on advice from other posters here, I asked them to consider my compassionate circumstances and just give me the status without points cost. I pointed out my long term loyalty and relatively high number of lifetime SCs. To my surprise and gratitude, they agreed and comped me! I would also like to say that I have responded in kind - now that my family circumstances have settled and my travel has resumed, I will easily re-qualify for WP again with paid flights. So, all's well that ends well. And thanks to those on this forum who offered sympathy and practical suggestions.

I think we often confuse frequency with loyalty. While you remain a frequent flyer you’re treated appropriately to your level of frequency. After a while that frequency is rewarded with an accumulated level of status (LTG in this case). This is your long term loyalty reward. As your flying habits fluctuate or slowly reduce in frequency, rather than consign you to “pleb” status, you are assured of a minimum level of treatment which is higher / better than the ordinary joe gets when flying. (Luggage, lounge access etc) I guess the drop from P to LTG perks wise is a bit of a reality check, but it is still otherwise a recognition of you longer term loyalty. Frankly I will have the same problem, I have been a life time qantas club member since 1988. Still not quite LTG (but close). Regardless of my frequency in the future, I will still fly in J whenever possible so a lot of the Platinum perks will remain, for the rest I have my safety net of LTG to look forward a to.
