Rewards booking codes for VA?

It'd be interesting to see if lower-tier members see the same results I do, or something different. I just re-checked, and the Velocity booking engine is still offering me 2 x J award seats MEL-DPS on 02/11/12 (DJ4153) whilst showing "Sold Out" if I search for 4, and the flight availability on EF is still the same as what I posted earlier in this thread. Are there any non status / Silver / Gold DJ FFs out there willing to run the same search and post the results?

I'm waiting for Gold SCs to post so technically Silver at the moment.

Thanks for that.

So that most likely debunks the theory of DJ releasing extra H availability to high-tier FFs that isn't visible on EF, and selling some J awards out of the J fare bucket to high-tier FFs only. It would be interesting to see the same search for a no-status DJ though, just in case - anyone?

So where does that leave us? Either DJ are willing to sell some J awards out of the J fare bucket to everyone, or I / Q / P fare buckets are also somehow related to J awards?

Based on the last few posts, it sounds like the consensus is that O - at least domestically - is flexi Y. That complicates things, as if correct it means EF does not show the fare buckets "in order" - O always appears to be listed to the left of Y (and even to the left of H, which we seem to have confirmed is a J fare bucket).

Yes, this is a bit odd. J, then W, then O is displayed when all three are present and, as you say, left of H which seems awfully odd. I'd have expected J, H, W, O is J=Business, H=Rewards Business, W= PE and O = Flexi Y.

1) At least one out of J, O, Y, I, N, S, P, Q is related to J award fares. Assuming the "firm" data posted in this thread (e.g. post 19) is correct, we can eliminate J, O, Y, N, S, which just leaves I (guess is some sort of goodwill / last minute changes code), Q (guess is points upgrade to J) and P (no idea).

Q is a weird one. jneufeld gets Q when points upgraded from (presumably Flex Y) to J, Medhed gets Q when travelling on the Amex Edge 'free' flight which is definitely a Y and not a J fare. Despite any number of possibilities of reward/non earning/blah/blah, I've hard pressed to understand how a single fare bucket code can cover both J and Y cabins.

We should explore this one. jneufeld / Medhead, I don't suppose you'd still have your boarding passes handy?

2) H is the only fare bucket related to J award fares, but they open up more availability to higher-tier FFs (I am DJ WP thanks to a status match) and this isn't shown on EF as EF doesn't support custom results based on DJ FF tier like they do for QF and some others (actually, does this customisation affect flight availability on EF for QF? Or only seat maps?).

I thought it was only seatmaps.

[Late edit: Actually, I've just noticed. EF does not spit out Q codes for me even on the dummy DPS run. I have no DJ status ... perhaps Q is J upgrades for people with status?]

Yep, me :) I fly rewards everywhere on DJ and have no status at all :) (thus my interest in this thread as I search with EF).

Let me look...

Yes. DJ4153 sold out for 4x PAX, also none for 3x.

2x has availability.

EF shows: J7 W7 O6 H2 Y7 I7 D0 N7 B0 M0 S7 T0 A0 U0 X0 R0 L0 P7 C0 E0 F0

So ... H2 seems right in this case. 2x J rewards seats available and the VFF engine unwilling to sell more.

Interesting also that H is showing 2, as previously reported it appeared there was only 7/4 or C in those fields right? Looks to me like J is wide open, but with only 2 seats left as rewards.

Looking down the list of flights out that day, it appears that H4 is the norm.

Heres DJ219/DJ4195 MEL-ADL-DPS that appears to be absolutely chockers: J0 O0 H0 Y0 I0 D0 N0 B0 M0 S0 T0 A0 U0 X0 R0 F0 L0 P0 C0 E0 for both flights.

and here is DJ675/DJ4159 MEL-PER-DPS which looks wide open: J7 W7 O6 H4 Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U7 X7 R7 L0 P7 C7 E0 F0

Interesting how O class on this day/route always seems to be 6

I think we may need to start trawling for peoples boarding passes (personal detail removed of course). Need a lot more data points.

Sorry, rather than re-edit that last huge post, this is of interest:

2/11/12 - MEL-PER-DPS DJ675/4159

EF = J7 W7 O6 H4 Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U7 X7 R7 L0 P7 C7 E0 F0

L, E and F are all zero.

F= Standard cash price, Discount Economy as is S, T, A, U, X, R ... yet there are none left of the F (only). ...hmm.

I had thought that L or E, or both, might be some sort of rewards Y, but Velocity is happy to sell me 9x Rewards tickets for DJ675/4159, a maximum of 4x Rewards J. VFF is also happy to sell me 9x ASA Saver or Flexi, and, interestingly, 8x ASA J

ASA J is coming out of J it appears, which makes sense as its "Any Seat". Still scratching my chin on O=6. W will be PE from connecting flights I'm sure.

Q is as you indicated.

I'd like to see a BP for a flight that makes use of the WP complimentary upgrades.

Thanks a lot! Both those look like Q fares is that right? There is a tiny little smudge in the right hand bottom corner of what I first thought was an O.

The percentage number is the percentage of the miles flown that are earned I assume.
O - listed in business column

Ahh. Smart. O = Discount J then. Almost certainly, would make sense in its placement on the EF fare code list too, presuming that list is revenue based J, W, O, H

This is from Delta.
O is Business & PE, just too make things clear for us!

I reckon they' made a mistake there. O=PE in Long Haul, an easy mistake for them to make. I just checked Etihads site for similar, they are listing B as both 1x earn and 0.5x earn, another mistake as it should be 1x and certainly can't be both at the same time.

More interesting in the above from Delta might be their exclusions: H, L, Z, D, I, Q, V, K .... surely these are related to rewards if they are completely excluded? Or deep deep discount Y. However all of DJ's own list of deep discount Y is already in the row "Economy Fare saver" (+G class????)

New update of possibilities then:

From Virgins Site:

S, T, A, U, X, R, F = Discount Economy
Y, N, B, M = Full Fare Economy (Flexi)
W = Premium Economy (?? Didn't think they sold this any more .. perhaps the code will be re-purposed later)
J = Business

AFF deduction, certainly open to review:

O = Discount J (or possibly Flex Y ... Medhead, any chance of a scan of your boarding pass?)

H = Velocity rewards J

I = Y (?? probably) reward or other non earning fare (Really unsure, some sort of Y fare that involves airline goodwill or last minute changes????)

D = Might be Government contract Y, probably non earning - need more data

L = Y (?? probably) reward or other non earning fare

P = Discount Y Flex, most likely rewards or non earning related (or it would be in the discount economy listing from DJ)

C = Listed by DL and SQ as 50% earning Discount Y ... more data required .. if it were standard cash discount Y then it should be in DJ's list of discount Y. If it were straight rewards its unlikely to generate earn via partners.

E = Listed by DL and SQ as 50% earning Discount Y ... more data required .. if it were standard cash discount Y then it should be in DJ's list of discount Y. If it were straight rewards its unlikely to generate earn via partners.

Q = Points Upgrade to J (Q not shown on ExpertFlyer to those with no status???).... Also a report of the Amex Edge CC free flight booking into Q but presumably in the Y cabin (confirmation required).

Did you get any earn with this one? I'm assuming not, as mostly DJ seems to have a policy of no earn on rewards or P+P tickets. I'd be interested if you got Flexi Y earn though ...

I was reassured by the GCC at time of upgrade that I would earn at Flexi Y SC rates, and Silver DJ points rates. They are yet to post into my account, so I'll be sure to let you know when they do

Here you go straight from the rule book:

9.13 Members will earn Status Credits and Points based on the original fare class booked for flights where an Upgrade Using Points has been redeemed.

I don't know where you got that from, the AX "Free" Flights book into T or R classes.

I got it from my spreadsheet but I'm pretty good at copying the details from BPs and such. I'll dig out the BPs on the weekend.

You did post as such in the following thread:

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ss-rewards/what-class-do-amex-free-36105.html

Could be a couple of things: perhaps the class has changed since the bookings were made, or it's a different class for "Reserve" redemptions than for "Edge" redemptions.

In any case my "Reserve" AX redemption flight for July made in November has booked into 'Romeo'.
