Rewards booking codes for VA?

So Q would be Upgrades - both points and WP Comp

Yes, it appears so. But, I've not been able to get ExpertFlyer to show me _any_ Q fares, so even the upgrades with points might be for status passengers only....

1F, so its definitely J - was this booked as the Amex Edge "free" flight?

Oops sorry. It was a free platinum upgrade as Serfty asked about. I won't be able to get the platinum edge BP until Saturday. But given those were booked under the old status earn system, maybe I should book this year's free flight, but then that wouldn't be until July.

I thought it was only seatmaps.

Right, thanks.

Yep, me :) I fly rewards everywhere on DJ and have no status at all :) (thus my interest in this thread as I search with EF).

Let me look...

Yes. DJ4153 sold out for 4x PAX, also none for 3x.

2x has availability.

EF shows: J7 W7 O6 H2 Y7 I7 D0 N7 B0 M0 S7 T0 A0 U0 X0 R0 L0 P7 C0 E0 F0

So ... H2 seems right in this case. 2x J rewards seats available and the VFF engine unwilling to sell more.

Interesting also that H is showing 2, as previously reported it appeared there was only 7/4 or C in those fields right? Looks to me like J is wide open, but with only 2 seats left as rewards.

Argh, you'll have to ignore everything I've posted previously in this thread - I've been led astray by bad data :-(

As soon as I read the above I noticed that what you were seeing on EF was completely different to me. Comparison - you first, me second:

J7 W7 O6 H2 Y7 I7 D0 N7 B0 M0 S7 T0 A0 U0 X0 R0 L0 P7 C0 E0 F0
J4 O7 HC Y7 I7 DC N7 BC MC S7 TC AC UC XC RC FC LC P7 CC EC Q7

Yours is much more "normal" (not just 4/7/C in each far bucket, H2 lining up with what the Velocity booking engine is showing, etc), so I went digging.

Checked all the obvious stuff - same flight, same day, etc - all correct. Started changing options one-by-one and eventually figured out where the difference was coming from: I'd been checking the "Don't show interline connections" box when I was searching (habit), and when it is checked I see the results I posted earlier. When it is unchecked I see the same results as you.

Based on the EF description of what the "Don't show internline connections" checkbox does I don't see why it would change the results for a flight that doesn't involve any interline connections (doesn't involve any connections at all!). Have I fallen into a EF-newbie trap here, or is this unusual?

This does beg one further question though: my "incorrect" data shows the Q fare bucket, which as you've pointed out doesn't normally appear - I wonder if the data is just plain wrong, or if this is a roundabout way to see availability in the Q fare bucket ?

I get different results when I searched a MEL-PER flight I am taking on Wednes. The top line below is with don't show interline checked, the bottom is 'standard'.
J4 O7 H7 Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U7 XC RC FC LC P7 C7 EC
J5
W5 O5 H3 Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U6 X0 R0 L0 P7 C7 E0 F0

Still no Q class though and that same 4/7/C with don't show interline checked

Weird - does EF availability data for other airlines change when the "don't show internline connections" box is ticked too? I just tried a few sample searches for other airlines and it didn't appear to make a difference, but obviously only a small sample. If it's just Virgin's results that are different... any theories why, and what the different data means?

And re no Q, my search was short-haul international - maybe that's why it showed Q whereas your search doesn't?

Ok finally here are my BPs for my free platinum edge flight ADL-SYD rtn, both are Q. April 2011.

Am I right in saying these flights were taken prior to the fare structure and points upgrade changes? This may be why they are in Q. Just a thought

Thanks for that.

April ... hmm. Did the fare codes change with the Virgin relaunch in may? I'm thinking, and sort of hoping (for consistency) that the VirginBlue moniker on the BP and the flight date might mean that Q has been re-purposed in the current DJ reincarnation.

I booked some flexi fares yesterday over the phone after checking the availability of "the Upgrade Class" and was upgraded immediately by the CSO using comps. They confirmed Q class.

Interesting though that Q class may be available even though H (award business class) is gone.

Was this a points upgrade or platinum comp.?

Used comps - needed three seats for one flight showing H2, so H class for companions and Q class for me.

March Update:

From Virgins Site:

S, T, A, U, X, R, F = Discount Economy
Y, N, B, M = Full Fare Economy (Flexi)
W = Premium Economy (Possibly Long Haul International PE translates into W for Domestic or Short Haul ... W seems to come from Business Class stock)
J = Business

AFF deduction, certainly open to review:

O = Discount J (or possibly Flex Y ... Medhead, any chance of a scan of your boarding pass?)

H = Velocity rewards J

I = Y (?? probably) reward or other non earning fare (Really unsure, some sort of Y fare that involves airline goodwill or last minute changes????)

D = Might be Government contract Y, probably non earning - need more data

L = Y (?? probably) reward or other non earning fare

P = Discount Y Flex, most likely rewards or non earning related (or it would be in the discount economy listing from DJ)

C = Listed by DL and SQ as 50% earning Discount Y ... more data required .. if it were standard cash discount Y then it should be in DJ's list of discount Y. If it were straight rewards its unlikely to generate earn via partners.

E = Listed by DL and SQ as 50% earning Discount Y ... more data required .. if it were standard cash discount Y then it should be in DJ's list of discount Y. If it were straight rewards its unlikely to generate earn via partners.

Q = Points Upgrade or Comp (status) upgrade to J

So ... in the interests of resolving this question, what do AFFers conclude? Is it safe to assume that Q inventory will be available up to the total of J inventory on any given flight? IOW, if a bookable J seat exists, is it certain that that seat will be available for a complimentary upgrade for a Platinum? It's certainly sounding that way!

Not at all!

If the T&C's had not been altered you could say so. But the fact is they were changed.

DJ can set the loads as they wish and J4 does not necessarily mean Q4.
Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

I agree, seems that way. However, I can't seem to convince EF to show me Q inventory at all. Status matters sometimes with codes like this, but I looked and EF doesn't seem to have any DJ/VA status related functionality.... so its a mystery to me.
