They should have tried something different, i.e. MEL-ICN which has no direct non-stop competitor, rather than duking it out with Asiana and Korean Air which fly daily into Sydney.
It's an interesting idea but I don't know how good the loads would be given more than half of South Korean-born people in Australia live in Sydney (as of 2016), and Samsung, LG, Kia and Hyundai are all headquartered in Western Sydney.

In fairness though, Melbourne immigration was seemingly outpacing every other city in the country, so maybe 9 years later it would be viable.
