Rewards ticket to Seoul

They should have tried something different, i.e. MEL-ICN which has no direct non-stop competitor, rather than duking it out with Asiana and Korean Air which fly daily into Sydney.

It's an interesting idea but I don't know how good the loads would be given more than half of South Korean-born people in Australia live in Sydney (as of 2016), and Samsung, LG, Kia and Hyundai are all headquartered in Western Sydney.

In fairness though, Melbourne immigration was seemingly outpacing every other city in the country, so maybe 9 years later it would be viable.

Always wondered how SYD could sustain 3 carriers to ICN whilst MEL had none and even BNE had KE! This would explain it.

For the same reason BR only flies to BNE and for a while ages ago, CI only did BNE as well. BNE is home to most Taiwanese in AU. Similarly, UL initially only flew to MEL... because MEL has more Sri Lankans.

I wouldn't have imagined that Korea would have suited the Jetstar crowd - and the Jetstar Bogans sure as hell wouldn't suit Korea! Seems like a strange decision!
Don't think bAlt and I are very bogan at all, and can't say I saw any easily identifable ones on our recent trip to Seoul from Brisbane. The Jetstar hate on AFF does get so very, very tiring.

My opinions are based solely on my own experiences with Jetstar - the last trip included a female who was obviously affected by an illicit substance running from the front of the aircraft to the back while naked from the waist down, and several groups of males becoming very intoxicated and rowdy before the flight was even half way. YMMV.

Wasn't aware that JQ's bundle of rights included free in-flight entertainment in all cabins? 🤔

More than 50% of people with Korean ancestry living in Australia live in NSW, and of all South Korean students studying in Australia 47% are in NSW, 25% in Qld and 17% in Victoria. This is the reason there are more flights to ICN from SYD than other cities.

Strathfield in NSW is known as Little Korea with largest South Korean populations living nearby in Sydney Olympic Park, Lidcombe, Newington and Rhodes. Strathfield is a great place to eat authentic Korean food or shop for Korean groceries.

South Korea is very affordable when compared to crazy hotel prices in Japan this year. So it does not surprise me that those looking for a bargain holiday or just to get home may choose to fly Jetstar over Qantas. Not dissimilar to those who choose to fly Jetstar to Japan or Bali even though there are more comfortable options.

Not all boguns fly Jetstar and not all who fly Jetstar are boguns.

It is well known that Qantas also has a shortage of aircraft for international routes so not prioritizing the aircraft that is currently flying SYD-ICN for a more profitable route from May.

Post covid, the Korean student population has definitely declined in Strathfield. Lots of Korean restaurants and shops have since closed with mostly South Asian shops replacing them.

Lidcombe and West Ryde are the new hotspots for Korean food and groceries.
