Rex BidUp Success and Failures

Flew MEL-SYD twice in the last two weeks, managed to get upgraded both times
1st flight - $40
2nd flight - $30

the second one was a strange one because the night before, I got an email saying I was outbid only to wake up the next morning to a successful upgrade email

no luck on the SYD-MEL flights though
Nice work! I've usually only submitted offers of up to about $90 and have been knocked back each time. $30/$40 respectively is a score. Were they overly full flights?

Economy was close to full for both flights, Biz load was 5/8 for the first flight and 8/8 for the second

quite happy with the experience considering how much I paid

Flight this morning was full 8/8 business. Maybe 70% econ. Evening flight I reckon econ was only 40%. Majority of us had a row of 3 to ourselves. I really enjoy the service and staff on Rex. All flights have been seriously great.

Great success today.

Bought promo economy fare ($89+cc fee) for today's flight SYD-BRI

Put in the base upgrade ($25) offer about T-2

Was rejected immediately.

Then got upgrade email about 90 minutes beforehand.

Happily enjoyed the lounge.

It was a x2, so only downside was the upgrades were not seated together.

Lovely in-flight experience - all for under $115 (+ cc fee on the economy fare)

My $30 bid for todays ZL139 on top of a promo$79 fare was quickly outbid when made last weekend. Last night it said a bid of $268 was required. This morning I got a message that my $30 bid was successful. Not sure how, but hooray!

Hmmm…

I wonder if ‘outbid’ refers to *any* bid higher than yours? But not related to the number of seats?

You might bid $30, someone else bids $40. You get the notification you have been outbid.

But if there are two seats available for upgrade, your $30 would still be available!

It’s possible someone bid $268, got a ‘guaranteed’ upgrade as the highest bidder… but given there were lots of other seats there were other successful bids as well.

I bid $35 for BNE/MEL. Got an email saying that I had been outbid, and would need to bid $125. I bid $55 on top of a $89 promo fare, and today was successful. Pretty clear to me that the indicative bids information is wrong

Same happened to my friend travelling last week MEL/SYD return. Bid $55 over cheapest fare. Also got outbid notices, but was successful at the original bid.

I think the indicative bid information might be accurate… but only looks at the highest bid, not how many bids there might be compared to total available seats.

I think the "default" price they put in grey is not a "winning bid", but a suggestion to grow yield. Interesting personalisation!

Success today. 5yo daughter booked on ZL368 SYD-BNE as an UM. Original flight was $91.92. Bid $40. Success email 3 hours before flight.

So pretty special for her with some extra attention on first UM flight!
Hope she doesn't get used to the "caviar" life ;-)

OOL-SYD
3 seats available, 7 bidders at T-12. Computer suggested $137.
$40 and victorious.

J full
Y ~50% full.

Site seems to be down, I've bid on the 2:15 syd to bne in 3 hours time, 5 J seats available, nothing received, link to site 1 hour ago says site unavailable.

Update, 5 min after above, followed the original update request confirmation email to the "modify/cancel" link, linked worked this time, I did nothing and almost immediately a push notification from credit card notified $25 (yes min bid!) had been deducted by Rex. Success.

And of course I'll catch the 420 bus from mascot to avoid the syd airport train concession, that will just about pay for the business upgrade 😁

Looks like there were system problems this week. Instead of getting the out-bid email I got this:

"Booking Reference: xx_xx_

We wanted to let you know we have cancelled your upgrade offer for this flight. You will not be charged and you do not need to take any further action."

I took this as an outbid and increased my bid from $35 to $55, and I was successful on ZL171 yesterday – but J was not full so in fact I think I could have resubmitted at the original bid and been successful.

A question: has anyone got a tax invoice for the upgrade or know how to get one please?

Tried to change my flights yesterday from 6:30am bne - 10:40am gff to some more reasonable hours, have up frustrated when I was offered flights more expensive than buying new tickets online.

Anyone put a minimum bid on the bne - syd leg and got a nice email this morning that it was successful. Gotta appreciate the small wins.
