Asked why Rex fell into such financial distress, Mr Freeman said investigations were continuing.  “The initial or preliminary view is the pilot shortage really impacted the business and created a position of sub-optimal fleet utilisation, as did problems with the supply chain, parts and turbine props, which also impacted fleet utilisation and the efficiency of the business,” he said.

Why are you so against regional communities getting better services?

For destinations like Parkes, Narrandera, Esperance, Albany and Moruya, Rex is the barrier that prevents those communities from being introduced into oneworld and having air services on larger, younger aircraft as well as customers from those places being able to earn QFF points. Due to the inability of many of those destinations to sustain more than one carrier, Rex’s presence actively prevents all of those possibilities. If Rex didn’t exist Qantas would likely be flying to most of those destinations today.

Are you against regional and remote customers being able to enjoy having access to a real FF program and oneworld benefits? Do you believe that regional air travel should be a 100% utilitarian point A to point B process without any sort of loyalty benefits, defeating the entire purpose of this website?

And highly likely they'll have zero consequences for it again - all to just screw over the staff and suppliers once again.

Strictly, it was the Administrator in this case so maybe it was a proper (early) assessment.

Honestly, you continue to demonstrate your complete lack of understanding of the need and purpose of air services to remote communities. Do you think the conversation in the pub on a Friday evening turns to the difficulty in getting Award seats to London? Having to pay for row 4 seats? :rolleyes: I've lived in plenty of small and rural communities in my working life. Let me assure you, the vast, vast majority just want a functional and reasonably priced air service, so they can access cities and services they don't have locally.

It needn't be, but that's what most people want - yes, gosh! not giving a stuff about 'loyalty benefits'. Loyalty programs cost money which gets passed onto customers in airfares. I don't think the average coughy is after Lifetime Gold either.

I mean positives solely that VA went belly up, could've disappeared completely, but luckily they survived, that's all I mean.

It's a very good mid tier airline imo.
Little different to prior, but still good different!

Stop trying to paint some sort of picture suggesting that regional communities would not prefer having access to QFF and oneworld over a 100% utilitarian airline. I hate to break it to you but those destinations can have both - affordable service and loyalty benefits from a real loyalty program.

Stop trying to conjure some sort of social division in that FF programs are somehow reserved for city folk only. Because that’s what your post is suggesting. Perhaps it is you that should “remain silent” as you have no idea on how much outrage was ignited in Moree in 2013 when the NSW government replaced QF with a Rex-style utility airline (Brindabella). You have no idea on how much QFF made a difference to air travel for that community, and it must drive you nuts you to know that the town rallied in jubilance when the contractor was changed back to Qantas in 2014 and flights resumed.

I’m sure people in Narrandera, Parkes, Albany, Esperance and Moruya share the same sentiments, because Rex is no different to Brindabella.

You till don't get it do you. Given the choice of a newer bigger plane but only 1 service a day versus older, slower planes but 3-4 services a day the people in regional and rural places I have worked in would prefer the more frequent services.
Once again I will ask you have you ever worked in a rural or a regional centre? You still come across as a brash city slicker who knows diddely squat about life outside major cities.

Rex runs double daily ADL-BHQ which is vitally important for their community.
Where are QF getting all these aircraft from to operate these new routes if they chose to do so?

Your Rex frequencies are a bit off. Burnie gets 3 daily services, with 1 flight stopping in King Island. Merimbula also has three daily Rex services to Sydney with flights stopping in Moruya.

before Qantas came it was 4 x ZL per day Spread out across the day. Now basically is a twice a day service early in the morning and early evening with Rex and QF leaving within a half hour of each other. I am sure a lot would rather some service in the late morning and early afternoon as I am sure any FIFO medical specialists would prefer. I know I would if still working.
And of course you conveniently forget Rex's service to King Island.

And as I thought would have happened you haven't answered my question as to whether you have worked in a rural or regional centre. So I am presuming you haven't so I regard your comments on regional air services as just uniformed waffle.

Sounds very different to the can do no wrong QF that you sprout.
 
This thread seems to have decended into a Qantas vs others argument. Perhaps the moderators could bring it back to its titled thrust or shut it down.

As it is it's really not very helpful in my opinion.

After all, the point of VA is to avoid the directors taking any liability for any debts (historically derived from English law where the view was that 8 good “men” would never cause a company to fall apart and thus didn’t need to carry the personal burden)

And to claw back undue preferences from creditors who were paid in the time period before the CA

And the reason NSW govt replaced QF with Brindabella in the first place?. Likely Brindabella put in a better bid. Was QF's bid uncompetitive?
I am very hesitant to get involved in the, er, vigorous off-topic discussion on this thread but the Brindabella thing was a big deal at the time! Rumour has it they offered an extra frequency and thus got the contract, but who knows the bid could've just been a lot cheaper. Moree Airport has the newspaper articles from QFs return framed and hanging on their terminal wall so they're definitely fans there.
