Rex launches its own frequent flyer program (in October 2023)

Maybe FFers for other airlines are too stubborn to fly rex? or they just don’t know/didn’t think? But certainly they won’t be giving away seats they think they might be able to sell!
We just took our first flight on Rex a few weeks ago, to get from Melbourne back to Canberra. They were the cheapest fare on the day, and there were no issues with the flight or the service onboard. Although, we do pay the "Canberra Tax" and Qantas, and sometimes Virgin hold us over a barrel.

Just signed up for their frequent flyer scheme, and loaded the details of our previous flight. Fingers crossed.

I flew on Tuesday morning, TA added my new FF number on Monday to the PNR.

No points hit my account and so I put a claim in yesterday which was rejected because it was for a future travel date, but also that membership number was in the booking. So perhaps rather than a flat out rejection the earning happens later down the track or something.

Anyway, I'll give it a week and check again.

I haven't flown Rex before, and not Jetstar for many years, so really need advice from you all.

If you had to choose between Jetstar and Rex, which one would you prefer for On Time as key metric? I am looking to book SYD-BNE for 4 people on 26 Dec, and QF/VA are very expensive on the day. The key here is that I will then check in to CX J BNE-HKG at 00:40 the next day. So I need to make sure that we all get to BNE on 26 Dec ......

Like you I’ve not flown Rex, nor Jetstar recently.

However, my vote would be JQ because the have more services and more service recovery options than Rex.

I'd avoid S**tstar at all costs.

Give Rexy a go, apply for their frequent flyer program & snag 5000 of their points.
Will they (the points) be of any use in the future? Probably not.

Your other option would be spend the $$$ and run with Virgin. I'd go with the airline I have the most status on, as Boxing Day SYD-BNE is always full on and there may be limited options for rebooking if your flight gets cancelled.

I have avoided boxing day by booking on Xmas day. If that fits your plans, you could use a mix of paid and rewards seats, and staying at or near BNE airport. QF558 at 20.35 ex SYD has 3 Y award seats available and QF540 at 1705 has 3 J award seats available. Not sure what would be available on VA.

In that situation would it be worthwhile booking the cheapest reasonably early BFOD flights for the 4 pax and then also booking the most refundable Y or even J cash ticket you could on another carrier as a back-up plan in case the airline is unable to get you to BNE on that day? Might be worth a new a thread or even article as to which airline has the "most refundable" seats available for purchase with the least restrictive cancellation/refund options? Given all airlines recently have demonstrated an inability to operate anything like their published schedules, this might be a handy resource for other people.

Looks like Rex have 5 flights planned on that day, Qantas has approx 11 flights, Virgin approx 13 flights and Jetstar approx 7 flights. As the Kamchatsky says - a lot of variability in Y fares on that day. The other questions to consider is weather and who is most likely to be on strike that day as industrial disputes are a possibility worth considering. e.g. baggage handlers or refuelers etc etc

Joined, just put in a retro claim for flights within the last 6 months... we'll see if they get approved.
No surprises here but the retro claims I submitted were rejected with this reason:

"Booking has been used before 2nd October 2023; points not awarded as not booking was not used in valid time frame."

Took about a week and a half for them to respond.

Is anyone else having trouble logging into Rex Flyer?

I didn’t have any of the issues others had with password length or characters when setting it up, but whenever I try to log in, it keeps saying my username and password are invalid.

I tried to reset the password but it was then telling me the email address was not registered, even though I verified my account using the email address, and also received the welcome email with my membership number to it. So far, I haven’t yet been able to log into my account at all.

I just tried then using my email and password and it logged me in Ok.

Yeah me too, its not the nicest website to log into, and I had to reset my password once the first time, but all my retrospective claims were denied so looks like no point putting any claims in yet.

Took them approx 5-7 years to reinstate something that they actually had before - so these things take time obviously! Can't rush these things.

How long does it usually take for the flights to be posted on the FF account? Having used to QFF posting them the same day (usually +/- 30 mins from landing) and VFF also being pretty quick, it looks like RFF is a bit more relaxed in its pace.

The way this program is set up, it's probably someone manually doing it lol

My last flight took about three days to post.

A request for retroactive crediting has been under consideration for over four weeks.

Are there any rumours on any new Rex partners? either airlines, credit cards, shopping?

SUPA IGA Tamworth should soon come online as their first shopping partner. This is perfect for Rex given their "heart is in the country".

Ok I'm just joking, there are no announced plans for partners at this stage. Given they announced an airline partnership with Delta for domestic interlines that replace VA but DL is still mostly offering VA tells you everything you need to know about how strong their airlines partnerships currently are.

I'm also surprised they've done no status matching or challenges but maybe that's something they're saving for the new year when business travel picks up again.

Its going to be interesting how much they invest into the program and what the do in 2024

I dont see the value with flying with them as there are no benefits although I did read they were upgrading their lounges to bigger space but havent heard anything since
