Qantas' response was in the AFR (in addition to the version on Qantas' website). Ironically it was published on the exact same page and position of the paper as the Rex opinion piece.Presumably it was the fact it was in the AFR. Silence can be pretty damning. I'm not sure they would have bothered if it was a Rex news release for example.

When I looked the other day they carried a full plane of passengers from MEL-SYD - spread across 6 flights. They are never going to win regardless with these current loads.
They need to get off Melbourne to Sydney or cut it back to a couple a day
It’s clear they are targeting about 0% of the business market so perhaps they need to fine tune the timetables and get rid of the 6am stuff. Numbers do increase throughout the morning, however die off on business times.
What did I say last week about burning money running flights at stupid times on stupid days? For those without Expert Flyer access, this was today's ZL10 (MEL-SYD at 6am):

Let's see the seat maps for ZL182 20:00 MEL-SYD, and ZL161 19:30 SYD-MEL in a couple of hours, please. (hopefully not an egg on face moment, but I'm confident!)
It's just mad. How long until they stop poking PR barbs at QF and start looking at what they can do to preserve the capital they have. There are far far better uses of their money than flying these sectors.
No reason these guys can't run a back of the clock service to Perth. They have monopolised regional connections on each end and should be able to offer very competitive point to point fares. Surely that beats flying 7 people to Sydney at 8pm.
I think we have the first 0 body flight morning. Still 20 mins until Check-in closes though!
