Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

I'll hand it to the comms team and Joyce, there are some pretty funny comparisons in there. Who'd have thought you could wrap up the Knight who said Ni in to an airline executive war of words..!

I wonder why QF felt compelled to respond? Who really cares what Rexy says they are a bunch of nut bags. I skip over any article where Sharp is quoted he’s just FOS.

Presumably it was the fact it was in the AFR. Silence can be pretty damning. I'm not sure they would have bothered if it was a Rex news release for example.

Qantas' response was in the AFR (in addition to the version on Qantas' website). Ironically it was published on the exact same page and position of the paper as the Rex opinion piece.

They are never going to win regardless with these current loads.

They need to get off Melbourne to Sydney or cut it back to a couple a day

When I looked the other day they carried a full plane of passengers from MEL-SYD - spread across 6 flights.

The loads I saw (this was Wednesday this week - post school hols, and only looked at ex-MEL flights), SYD 16%, ADL 52%, OOL 82%.

It’s clear they are targeting about 0% of the business market so perhaps they need to fine tune the timetables and get rid of the 6am stuff. Numbers do increase throughout the morning, however die off on business times.

Qantas has the re-emerging business market who are starting to travel more actually. Why bother and try and fight them for it.

I agree, adjust timetables to pick off the leisure travellers and fight a weakened VA2 to do so. Will be easier amongst the more budget conscious.

For those without Expert Flyer access, this was today's ZL10 (MEL-SYD at 6am):
What did I say last week about burning money running flights at stupid times on stupid days?

Let's see the seat maps for ZL182 20:00 MEL-SYD, and ZL161 19:30 SYD-MEL in a couple of hours, please. (hopefully not an egg on face moment, but I'm confident!)

Has there been a zero load flight yet?

perhaps tomorrow morning. Seat maps is already zero meaning nobody has pre picked seats

Well the loads on these flights are better... just.

It's just mad. How long until they stop poking PR barbs at QF and start looking at what they can do to preserve the capital they have. There are far far better uses of their money than flying these sectors.

No reason these guys can't run a back of the clock service to Perth. They have monopolised regional connections on each end and should be able to offer very competitive point to point fares. Surely that beats flying 7 people to Sydney at 8pm.

I think we have the first 0 body flight morning. Still 20 mins until Check-in closes though!

And suffer the losses from multiple shutdowns both in and out of Perth courtesy of the WA government.... it’s probably a major consideration

Well if the seat map is accurate, this morning's ZL9 SYD-MEL at 7am had no passengers. Amazingly, it wasn't cancelled. (I suppose they needed to position the plane to MEL so it could pick up the 30 passengers booked on the return flight?)

For comparison, QF409 (SYD-MEL) at exactly the same time had 9 passengers in J and 58 in Y.
