Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

Bookings for flights between MEL and ADL/CBR have reopened?

Yeah, they seem to be changing their schedules in real time. When I looked 10 minutes ago, all flights were gone. Now flights are back online, but the cancellations have been pushed back by several more weeks (at least).

Flights are now scheduled to resume:
  • MEL-OOL 13/8/21
  • MEL-ADL 19/8/21
  • MEL-CBR 19/8/21
  • SYD-MEL 3/9/21
  • SYD-OOL 3/9/21
Expect more changes in the coming weeks.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the flights to and from Canberra. The ACT is still a Red Zone for Vic and SA, as they've lumped us in with NSW, meaning having to isolate, testing etc for 14 days. I think 19 August might be a bit optimistic. Although SA does let you transit through Canberra Airport - I'm not sure which connecting flights that would be.

Rex should GA-rab them:
Another opportunity for Rex in their battle against QF:

I wonder if the RexJet operations ( jointly funded by Singapore PE/businessmen) will survive at the end of the East Coast Delta cluster lockdowns for them to consider extra 737 leases.

Well, you've all seen rolling delays, whilst stuck in the terminal. 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes. Two hours. Cancelled. Perhaps the only difference is that they now talk in months.

I've had a fair few advance bookings with QF this year, two-thirds cancelled before I get to fly. They will send an email advising of a reschedule and then a day or two later lockdowns are announced/ extended, then the flights are cancelled altogether - very clearly they are getting advice earlier than the general public.

Now we have Rex pushing back by a months and the following day there are 29 cases in Victoria. Hard to think of any other explanation than the Vic government thinks that we'll be in lock down for 2 + weeks and has advised the airlines.

Golden Triangle down for the count.

Airlines like some Joe Public doing it very tough. Not good.

Hopefully Qantas shareholders ready for another CR at some point, Bain US ready to inject more moolah & what Rexy have their Singapore buddies extend their line of credit.

Bring on 2022.

Umm, does anyone seriously think the current Victorian lockdown will only last for a week (whether advised by government or not)?

It's in Al Taqwa and the housing commission in Flemington and just about everywhere else it visited in 2020, granted with tighter government controls, but this time it's Delta ...

I'm ignoring reality in a vain hope.

No, I certainly don't think it will end quickly - this is the Victorian government we're talking about. My point was that government does know - they're briefing the airlines, but not telling joe public.

Joe public is not stupid. They’ve been there done that. They can see what’s happening. No one I’ve spoken (family in Vic) thinks this will be over in a week, after hearing yesterday how and where and who of this spread. Maybe government are briefing the airlines or maybe Rex can read the signs as well as everyone else can.

Airlines are a critical and essential service they are absolutely finding out before most, how far in advance would be the question.

With no surprise to anyone, REX is forecasting a $18m loss for the upcoming financial year. Most of that from the Jet ops.

Just how long will the Singapore consortium of Businessmen and Private Equity will continue to tip money into RexJet is yet to be known.
