Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

I don't find it 'surprising' because I recently informed, separately, a relative and a friend, both Melbourne residents, and their answer was 'we've not heard of Rex'.

Wow. There are a lot of places including tourist places where you need to fly Rex, like King Island, Kangaroo Island, Coober Pedy ......

I know many people who have heard of Rex but they only believed they flew “little regional planes”. The advertisement of their jet fleet doesn’t appear to have fully worked just yet

Good point, I also only associate Rex = SAAB. I only think of Rex for the SYD / MEL / BNE / ADL when QF / VA are too expensive or bad timing and I starting wondering if there would be any alternative, that's when I think of Rex

I'm sure Perth is on their radar, but do you want them flying to Perth because you want to fly them, or because you want VA to reduce their prices?
Couldn't really care less but it seems like they are leaving revenue on the table and I wonder why, when fares are very high across the board and the aircraft seem to spend way too much time on the ground.

I wonder if Rex would consider flying one of their 737s from a regional WA city to a regional city in the eastern part of Australia. They do seem to fly to a few regional locations........
Some farmers are even considering occasionally wandering

Except for KI, which attracts many South Australians (especially Adelaidians), these localities have small numbers of visitors.

Busselton to Melbourne is a good example of a regional to east coast flight, however it is funded by the local council and tourism body over that way, remains to be seen of these regional long haul routes would be profitable without taxpayer cash.

Don't forget REX has multiple daily feed in to Perth from Albany and Esperance. VA had that benefit for a while after the Skywest purchase.

You've probably answered your own question. The answer would almost certainly be 'no'.

Melbourne-Esperance(or)Albany-Perth on Friday evening
Perth-Albany(or)Esperance-Melbourne on Sunday evening
Since Rex already fly the two intermediate towns as part of the WA system
Or am I too far gone with my wandering
Fred

So I flew Melbourne-Brisbane and the Brisbane- Sydney..... Sydney-Brisbane(needed to get home)
1. They cancelled first flight 8pm day before. On hold when called for a while and given two options earlier or later.
2. Ground crew very accommodating.
3. They load a plane correctly first rows first, here looking at you qantas 👀.
4. Was not cheap getting home for the time of flight..... not earlier enough into Melbourne! to get public transport home in PM.
5. Aircrew easy on the eye 😳🙄

Enjoy:

Rex have signed a letter of intent to lease 2 more 737-800’s and hope to receive them in June and July
They must be making money somehow! I noticed on Sunday at 830am they still had seats on the 0945 to MEL for $345 in business class… meaning plenty of spare seats. In fact all day they were offering that fare. VA and QF were hundreds of dollars more in economy!

According to SMH, they are "on loan" from SQ.

Those old Silk Air 737s are J Cabin x12 also, doubt they will change the cabin like they barely have done with the rest. The Rex Jet fleet will certainly be a very hit and miss product wise. One day flying ex Jet Airways cabin, next day Silkair, then Virgin and so on...

Thought Virgin took all those Silkair 737s, clearly missed some, they seem hungry for aircraft thought they would have taken the lot.

I would not think of it this way. As a Sydneysider, journey time of many if not most Rex routes are shorter than a typical daily bus ride in Sydney. I don't think anyone could complain about the hard product since the seats will definitely be better than a seat on a bus.

Think of it as a lucky dip, or tasting platter.

Ex Singapore Airlines/SilkAir aircraft with 12J. I wonder if ZL is going to rip out a J row to make it 8J like the ex-Jet and ex-VA aircraft.

The 2 737-800s will be on lease/loan from SQ. On a related note:

"Ohmaigawd, SQ leased jets to REX. Is SQ going to taek ovah REX???!!!!!!1111!!"
