I have seen better under 14's boys soccer, that is better then the women’s.

Watching the opening ceremony; basically a lightshow so far with some added film footage. A bit of sleight-of-hand too. To illustrate projected extreme sea level rise, the first city shown was Amsterdam, which is already 2m below sea level !! Really, I don't think the Brazilians are in a position to lecture the world on environmental degradation.

Athletes' parade on now. I think the audience is asleep.

The Athletes parade lasts for ~ 2 hours. ZZZZZ. I missed the Aussies anyway.

When I was under 14 and played soccer we were definitely not as good as the Matildas.
Sure a state or national under 14 side can on the day beat the Matildas but they are still not as good to watch.
I watched all the Matildas Asian qualifying matches and enjoyed it more than most Senior top level men's games that you can watch.I hope they can do well.

The men's 4x100m relay!

LOL we've been following each other around for years!

Must have been sitting in the same seat a few days later... we got to see Susie O'Neill win the 200m Freestyle, and the men take out the 4 x 200m relay. Photos haven't aged well.

LH pic - Cathy's just won the 100m final! RH pic ... after that, who cares? :)

Those were the days....

We were there! Terrific night... Cathy Freeman, Michael Johnston and that sensational 10,000m winner Haile Gebrselassie!

Also saw that cheat Marion Jones take out the 200m a few nights later.

Also managed to see some Water Polo, Boxing and Weight Lifting.

Was a special time to be living in Sydney!

Going to top this. MrP on the Pool Deck during all Swimming Finals.
And of course in the Opening ceremony. Got to see him on TV.

Just watching opening ceremony... I have to wonder if all the venues are fully ready...

I was there for Jones too ;)

Yes, a good time to be in Sydney ... the improved rail and roads were almost worth the disruption for the 2 years prior :)

In the opening ceremony at Rio it looked for a while like we were going to get the Samba I've been waiting for. A bit tame so far ... cross fingers ...

Amateurish opening ceremony. We got spoiled in the last 8 years but with 1/10 of London's budget and a small fraction of Beijing's the Brazilians didn't have much to work with.
I'll make a safe bet saying in 4 years it's going to be more impressive ;)

We are watching NBC in Los Angeles right now due to the "delayed coverage". After 40 minutes of advertisements we are ready to say NBC now stands for No Bloody Coverage. Almost time for us to give up.

Im with you Boomy and thought exactly the same thing with regards to the opening Ceremony.
But yes, times are tough in Brazil fiscally speaking, and they did a respectable job with very little money.

Japan will really push the boat out and will put some sophistication back into the opening ceremony.

Aussie's First Gold Medal:

Mack Horton - Men's 400m Freestyle!

Nice work!

Aussie's 2nd Gold Medal:

Womens 4x 100m freestyle relay in the pool!

Great Momentum happening now!

Its a different swim team now. Lots of ego's gone or dented.
