Rio Olympics 2016

I'm trying to imagine what it would be like without it. Is there any country that wouldn't be over the top with their local team boosting? Maybe very small countries but they probably wouldn't have their own commentary team.

Probably be very boring as it would be all low-key and not the hype expected by the public.

When i was working in London for the last Olympics we had 6 TV's in our office with zero commentary (live OBS feed). It can be a bit hard to follow if you don't know the sport to well.

Every Rights Holder Broadcaster will have a team in Rio, they need to be there to package out the feeds.

There isn't much happening at this time. Its always quiet until the evening programme kicks in and day things are finished. If nothing much happened during the day then nothing to report.

Quite a few things on like tennis matches, weightlifting, field hockey, Beach Volley Ball, boxing... But the cash cow is the priority.

Lets face it. Its swimming, athletics, cycling, rowing and gymnastics. Team sports have many heats to get through. Tennis? Shouldnt be there. Golf? Shouldnt be there. If the top events are on then most dont watch.

Well done Ladies! Always brilliant to win Gold over the Kiwis. lol

Yet we are forced to watch the Equestrian every 4 years...

Anyway here is a link to a pizza chain that is offering a free pizza everytime Australia wins gold. I forgot to register, so I have missed out on 4 pizzas.

Italian Restaurant Flinders Lane Melbourne, Brisbane CBD Restaurant, Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast Restaurant, Sydney CBD Italian.

I forgot to say Soccer is the biggest sport at the Olympics by attendance numbers. Imagine if the Men's teams were not 23 and under?

It would be bigger then the so called traditional sports.

My eldest son was at handball and volleyball yesterday. In the US we saw a 15 second coverage of handball. We loved it in London.

Handball is really popular in Europe. Quite good to watch live.

Looking at some of the results and was surprised to see Qatar beat Croatia? Had a look the Qatar, yep more then half the team is from Europe.

I look forward to skateboarding in 2020......

Huge scrum pyramid of photographers for Phelps and his family. Nice.

Insane. Great swim.
Have you joined the cruise mob in your avatar?

Not yet. The avatar is a snap shot from a day we spent at 4,000 metres or 12,500 feet on Lake Titicaca in May. Terrific location.

You would't know it given the media hype but even the swimming doesn't seem to evince much interest in the general public going by my observations in the VA Lounge in BNE yesterday. I was flying at 1300 so I had time to watch a few races and thought the Lounge would be a good spot. The races started at 1100 and I got there about 1130 a bit before the first Australian (involved) final. Grabbed a good seat near a TV. With the sound turned down there was certainly no atmosphere but I thought people would gather around as the races got underway. One bloke sat behind me with a mate (who looked at his phone the whole time) and we watched the Aus girl (Madeline Groves) get a silver. I looked over to the other TV I could see and no one was watching it at all. Then there was a the men's 100m Freestyle final and we managed to get one more spectator to see Kyle Chalmers win gold. We celebrated but the rest of the lounge was oblivious.

It does make me wonder.

Not sure about that, in Hospital yesterday visiting my niece and people glued to TV sets everywhere watching the swimming, Guess there is nothin' better to I spose.

Great performance in the final-how 7s should be played
Managed to see the first half on phone (at least the premium service free as with Telstra) as Channel 7 showing nothing much on the TV (admittedly 2 channels showing Australian hockey and basketball).
Pleasure to watch with a Fijian colleague. Fiji must be quite high on the 'per capita' medal table now
