I just spoke to some Fiji friends and they said people are dancing in the streets.
They are just a bit excited.
Just watched Phelps win gold number 22. But this was special - the same even (200m IM) four times in a row to set a new world record. And he seemed to do it easily. Getting better with age? Maybe he should go to the next Olympics?
When we go to Fiji we go to Pacific Harbour which is where the team trains. The locals go crazy just watching them in training :!:straitman, that's understating a bit. The folks must be ecstatic! There are calls for the coach and family to by given citizenship which is not far-fetched.
Aussie swimmers seem to have a habit of peaking in non-Olympic years?
In reality, the World Titles are actually more coveted. In swimming and cycling. Watching Phelps. Again? Semi only.

I wouldn't have thought so in Swimming (I've been involved with NSW swimming for years).
All the kids I've ever seen and coaches I know covet Olympic glory.
Yep, worked in Fiji for a year. You think the Kiwis are rugby crazy, not a patch on the Fijians. Totally deserved too!
Mmm something must be wrong with the preparation when a number of swimmers fade in the finals. Plus the Olympics needs to stop pandering to US TV ratings.
At the child level yes. That changes as they head into elite levels.
