Rockfords discussion

Bought a dozen Moppa Springs a couple of years ago. Drank one last year and was quite disappointed. Haven't bought any since
Cracked another last night and it was amazing. It was like night and day. Now I'm regretting not buying more!

Thank you for booking a Steam Powered Dinner Cruise aboard the historic PS Marion. By joining us on this special weekend you’re helping put steam back into the boiler of one of Australia’s grandest old Paddle Steamers. We look forward to welcoming you on board and slowly plying through some of the most spectacular parts of the Murray River whilst enjoying the best of South Australian food, wine and hospitality.
O It’s really important to us that you have a wonderful weekend away on the river, so if you have any questions about your trip please get in touch with me, Corinne and I’ll be happy to help. My days of work are Monday to Thursday 8:30am-2pm.
Brett Lanthois has been hosting the Steam Powered Dinner Cruises for sixteen years. He and his team are looking forward to the cruise as much as you are! Brett is a wealth of Barossa, Rockford and PS Marion knowledge.
Jack Ingram has been invited to cook on your cruise. Hailing from Dorset, England, he moved to Australia in 2010, working with Shannon Bennett at the highly acclaimed Vue de monde and Bistro Vue. Jack is now head chef at Sunset Food and Wine on beautiful Kangaroo Island, SA. He will bring his own team and everything needed for the whole weekend. The meals prepared on board are cooked with the boat’s original equipment and coal fired stove, Esse. The Captain and Crew are all volunteers supplied by the Mannum Dock Museum of River History. They are enthusiastic, knowledgeable river folk. Though they’re always happy for a yarn, please also bear in mind their main job is to safely operate the boat, so their instructions must be followed. For your peace of mind, please know that the boat is fitted with safety and fire equipment and operates under the same regulations as all other cruise boats in Australia.
There are no telephones, televisions or radios on board. This really adds to the relaxing atmosphere and the opportunity to truly get away from the rest of the world for a few short days. Though there may be limited electronics on board, there is a bar and two saloons! There’s also plenty of deck seating, so you can easily find a quiet spot to sit and watch the river go by or mingle with other passengers as you wish. The cabins are twin share bunks, one up – one down. Though the rooms are modest in size, there is space to hang up some clothes and store your luggage. Linen, towels and a robe are provided. The rooms are toasty warm, with the steam from the huge boiler engine below gently weaving up through each cabin. If you’d like to bring along your favourite hot water bottle, we can fill it up for you each night.
Shower and toilet facilities are shared, though with only 28 guests on board, these amenities are certainly ample. The boiler engine creates plenty of steaming hot water which ensures spectacular showers. And, with windows looking out over the riverbank, there are lovely views to enjoy at the same time.
Dress code for the majority of the cruise is warm and casual, and flat shoes are recommended to safely navigate the decking and stairs. A beanie will help with those cool mornings on deck or a walk on the bank.
The boat is moored at Mary Anne Reserve in Mannum. This is a two hour drive from Adelaide and one hour from the Barossa Valley. Passengers are welcome aboard from 4.00pm but please, no later than 5.30pm on Friday. Once you arrive and all luggage is stowed on board, we’ll move all cars to our secure parking area.
After being officially welcomed on board by Brett and your Captain, you’ll depart for an evening cruise. The bar will be open for pre-dinner drinks before supper is served. After supper, there will be a concert performed by South Australian musicians in the saloon.
You’ll continue cruising on Saturday morning, slowly steaming through around sixty kilometres of beautiful Murray River landscape. Brunch and afternoon tea will be served throughout the day. On Saturday evening the boat will tie up to the bank and, weather permitting, you’ll be able to hop off-board and stretch your legs. Our Grand Dinner will be served from 7pm. The wine for this night is specially selected from Rockford's museum cellar. Black tie dress would seem appropriate as formal attire certainly adds to the sense of occasion.
On Sunday, you’ll enjoy a sumptuous brunch whilst the boat slowly steams back to the dock in Mannum. You will disembark at approximately 3.00pm, so if you’re catching a plane out of Adelaide on Sunday night you’ll need to allow for a two hour drive back to the airport.
The set price of $1200.00 per person for the 2023 cruises is all inclusive of your secure car park, dinner and concert on Friday night, Saturday brunch, afternoon tea and grand dinner; Sunday brunch, all wines and pre-dinner drinks courtesy of Rockford Wines, 3 days of cruising and 2 nights’ accommodation aboard the PS Marion.
All profit generated from your ticket is donated to the PS Marion as part of Rockford’s ongoing sponsorship. We are proud to be involved with this special piece of South Australian river history and we sincerely appreciate the crucial part you play in making sure this grand old boat can be enjoyed for many generations to come.
On behalf of the Captain, Crew and all the team at Rockford, happy cruising!
