Rookie mistake - forgot to check in...

Thing is I don't think they would have had time/opportunity to bump/move anyone - I was second to last to board (and he was in row 5) and got my BP for a 3PM flight at about 2:50...

A family member of mine has had much worse. Turned up to Syd with their CL card and travel agent itinerary ready to check in for SYD-LHR-FCO in F. Turns out the agent had never booked the flight!

Had the agent taken the money?

I'm assuming that with an itinerary it was booked, rather not ticketed, as happened to me. Always check you have a ticket number and check in on line! I think my booking (NOT ticket) was even on the QF 'my bookings' screen.

Did your friend get on in the end?

Oh no!! I smiled when I read this. I've never done it... but I have arrived in Perth and realised I'd forgotten to book a hotel. Perth is not the best place to try and book at 9pm on the night.

Had a similar experience busy week was with a big group in the lounge, thought I checked in but beeped at the gate with wrong pass on my mobile. I was resigned to getting the next flight but the very accommodating person on the service desk at the gate said you're a WP I said yes, he tut tutted a few more times and then handed me my boarding pass. I was happy and now also check at the totem if no boarding pass.

Did you end up finding somewhere or did you resign yourself to a park bench?
Last year I was asked to go to PER with about 3 days notice. I could not find a single room for the night anywhere in the city at any price range anywhere. Luckily I had a friend who had a friend who had a spare couch, otherwise I was going to be spending the night sleeping under the stars...

I had to stay with a very kind colleague... nothing available under $1k. I've done your version too, realised the day before. Luckily I was able to find a B&B to stay at in the middle of no where... definitely no hotels! Perth is tough for accommodation.

I have forgotten to check in once, but the service desk adjacent to the gate immediately fixed it. Unsure why this didn't occur in your situation?

The issue with NCGI for frequent flyers is that you can, and I have, forget what time or flight number you are on and embarrassingly have to leave the queue and walk back to the lounge...

I reckon this is more common than you might think.

A while ago I walked through to the MEL J lounge having just flashed the WP card at the front. The J lounge dragon (very nice lady actually) asked if I had checked in. When I hesitated she motioned for the card and I gave it to her. A couple of seconds later she said I hadn't, here is your BP and have a good flight.

The one time I did NGCI, I spent the entire time checking the screens to remind myself of my next flights details, and thus decided never again.

I find I check my boarding pass a few time between receiving it and finally boarding, just reminding me of the exact time i'm boarding and thus working out if I really do have the time for another drink or not etc...

This has happened to me several times. Luckily my TA has a 24 hour line, though I am always less than impressed and let them know about it.

Oh.... That's what those machines are for.

I never check in until I get to the lounge DOM or the Airport INT.

That's why my sequence numbers are so high.

I thought those machines did your height and weight!

Boss

You Dag ! ...

Unfortunately it isn't available any more but I got the "My Flights" app for my iPhone - you just put in your booking reference and it finds your booking and constantly updates the details. I find it invaluable - now if only it told me whether I had checked in...

+1. I am a little hesitant when I just have the mobile phone message. I too like a piece of cardboard in my hand. It's my security blanket that is very difficult for someone to argue against.

I've had several bookings that have been booked, but not ticketed - seems to be a habit of AMEX corporate travel.

I took the +1 to the airport with me once to show her the NGCI thing and spend a few hours in the lounge before I went away for a week. I specifically wanted to show how cool the totem check in thing was. I tapped my card, got an error. Had to go to the service desk, where I was told that I hadn't actually purchased a ticket for the flight. Red-faced, I had to pay on the spot. It's good to be reminded that you aren't as suave as you think you are some times.

I've also had flight changes through the service desk that haven't been ticketed.

These days I always check the booking on CheckMyTrip the day before to make sure it has been ticketed.

Finding accommodation in Perth is the pits. We travel to Perth a lot for business and the cheapest city room we could find was $ 500 for a basic room. Ended up staying near Fremantle and driving in.
Must remember to tap the Pole now.

Time for a new TA I would have thought....
