Room category codes

I am booked at the Sofitel, Darling hbr this weekend and have just received a confirmation from them indicating my room as a KGAOS type room. Also informed I can book an upgrade to a KGBEF or KGAEF.

Can anyone tell me what these rooms are and why don't they use normal terms like "Superior room" or "Luxury room" or "Junior suite" etc which everyone knows

Did you book the hotel directly with Accor? The email should tell you exactly what room type you booked at the property, here's what mine looked like when I stayed there earlier this year:



If for some reason that's all you see, I'd probably login to your Accor account and view the reservation there to see what it states. In terms of deciphering the code, I suspect KG indicates King Side bed. If in doubt, call up the hotel and ask to speak with a manager, they'll probably be able to shed some light on this.

To your point about whether it makes sense to pay for the upgrade. It depends on the cost of the upgrade, what you are getting in return and your elite status. For instance, if I am a Gold (or lower) Accor elite and there was an upgrade offer to move to a room with Executive Lounge access for $50, I'd take it in a heartbeat. But even as a Platinum, if it was $100 to upgrade to a Junior Suite I'd probably take it too, since generally Accor does not upgrade even their higher tier elites like yours truly to a suite level room at a Sofitel for free.

Yes booked direct and heres what my confirmation looks like, I'm just wondering why in correspondence to me they are using the different room types

It's their internal codes at the property for the room type - probably not meant to make it's way onto what's visible to guests on the booking, but maybe was transposed to the wrong field in the system by revenue management. You sometimes see them on the folio at the end of the stay as well.

Yes, agree, but the IT people should proof read the site and correct that sort of thing before it goes live. I mean what's the point in offering me an upgrade to KGBEF or KGAEF when I don't know what I am upgrading to and whether its worth it or not.
Considering the original room I booked I don't think I really need a better room, as a Plat I already get club access, breakfast, afternoon drinkies etc
