Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

I don't use a hair dryer - I do so much to my hair ( perming, hi lights, low lights, ) that I think letting it dry naturally - and I usually have the time to let it, and then I use my Instyler curler wand - I love this tool !!

Why do people keep overfilling electric kettles? One or two family members keep filling it past the line and to the top. So everytime water boils out onto the kitchen bench.

We use old wooden cutting boards under the kettle but because of water overflowing, water collected under the boards. So much that fungus started growing and was damaging the kitchen laminate.

Got rid of wooden cutting boards and despite water overflowing, they keep overfilling the kettle and don't wipe down the bench.

Might have to get rid of the kettle if people can't follow simple instructions and let them boil with gas.

Might be easier to get rid of the people :p

Love my Roomba & Thermomix! I've had far more successful meals with Thermo than without. Recipes I've often thought were out of my league become possible.
Roomba doesn't do the edges & corners, but I never did them every week anyway! Just remember to not leave anything lying around before going to bed, then you can wake up to a clean house :D

Some of you may find this kitchen gadget interesting - I certainly hadn't heard of it before I was very lucky to be gifted one! https://anovaculinary.com

The Anova is a sous vide 'precision cooker' that allows you to cook food (I've only tried meat so far) in it's own juices at low temperatures and over long periods, and the results have been very tasty so far! The thing even connects to your wifi and can be controlled via an iPhone app with recipes and tips etc. I'm told you can cook some meats for 72 hours and they're supposed to be mind-blowingly good! Thus far I haven't had the patience to cook anything for more than 3hrs, but we'll see!

IIRC ~70-80 people burnt/injured by Thermomix products.
Quote sad - the old model seems to have been a disaster, with the lid flying off and spraying really hot liquid everywhere. I have the new model and have been using it for 18 months now without any issues. Mr FM used to do all the cooking, but after getting my thermomix, I have taken over. He says I am now like a member of a cult, I love it so much. :). I have bought thermomixes for Dr FM and Miss FM as well.

Not defending the Thermomix or playing down the issues but reminding people that the Choice report does not refer to the current model. There are no (that I'm aware of) reported problems with the current model.
Quite correct - it is the old model only as far as I know. The new model has a clamp to stop the lid coming off.

What a great tactical move by Mr FM!

And the hot water heater has given in. 10 year warranty and of course it's 12 years old.

Why do they make it so hard to search for gas hot water heaters online?

Not to mention the shocking waste in power boiling a full kettle. Must have anxieties about boiling dry or something!

I was googling the subject and found that if you overfill the kettle your actually decreasing its life span.

Reverting to the topic of vacuum cleaners.

After further research, I did buy a Roomba. Bought a 860 from aurorobot: excellent service. With a small flat, I didn't need the remote control or complex scheduling but I did want the newer rubber rollers rather than the previous brush ones. Very pleased with it, even though it needed emptying frequently of course on the first couple of runs because it was so long since I last used the big vacuum cleaner. It was easier than I expected to remove my long hair wrapped around the roller spindle – much easier than from the brushes of my Miele top-line vacuum cleaner. Went out for a walk leaving the Roomba running and was amazed to see it still in action 1hr and 20 minutes later on my return.

Following advice on a Whirlpool thread, I also invested in a handheld Bosch V-18 (found a good price at Supergrip Tools) to clean in the crevices the Roomba can't reach, such as between fridge and stove and behind the toilet waste-pipe. It did lack a dusting brush attachment but found that easily on eBay. So now my flat is super clean, and I can keep it that way without bending or hauling a heavy vacuum cleaner out of the cupboard or from room to room or tripping over the power cord. My back is grateful.

The old Miele is going to a Freecycler with a dog-fleas-in-the-carpet problem.
