Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

Keeping in mind for the UK if you empty completely you'll have a nice bit of limescale each time to go with it. Yum.

I love a good gadget. We have the Roomba 880 which does all of our floating timber floors (I hate it on the carpet) +1 for the granny flat, a TM31 (and to be honest, I have anxiety about using it now when its on Varoma and a higher speed), wireless BBQ temperature monitors, and anything else that I can think of.

Does anyone have any experience with robotic lawn mowers? Husqvarna is doing a trial in Australia, and we've been chosen to be one of the testers. We will be given one of the units, it will be installed for us, and all we have to do is 10 social media reviews within 2 or 3 months, and its ours. Spoke to our local dealer and he's been sent our property report, photos of our yard, overview photo of the property, and 8 pages of other info apparently. Since we are on an acre, he said we will probably end up with this model. Can't wait to put my feet up and mow the lawn! :)

You may want to check to see if Masters Home Improvements have any left as they are selling everything and closing. I know they had some a year ago.

Some time ago, I forgot my Nespresso password, and last month our Nespresso machine stopped working. So, back to Aeropress until I can buy a cheap clone off eBay. Yesterday, Nespresso rang.

Hey, you haven't bought any capsules for a while, how's things?

Password forgotten, can't reset, machine in landfill, woe abounds.

Well, how about we give you a free one, if you buy some capsules?

Okay, sounds like a good deal!

So, upshot is that I buy 150 capsules (just over a hundred dollars) and I get a free Lattissima Touch, listed at $650. That's less all told than a clone would have cost me for the machine alone.

Yes, I know it's like buying a cheap printer and expensive ink, but Nespresso compatible capsules are available nowadays, and they a sight cheaper than the official ones.

I recycle the coffee grounds for the compost and put the aluminium shells into the recycling, thanks for asking.

And they do a nice coffee, got to say. Not as good as a good barista can produce, but better than my Aeropress, and that's saying something.

Friends popped in on the weekend and were interested in the Dyson so we gave them a demo. Two of their kids then spent the next 20 minutes zipping around the house with it, which was great...until the younger one faceplanted in the cat litter and managed to spread it from one end of the house to the other. Had to re-vacc the whole house once theyd gone

WE bought one last week. We have all hard floors but we figured that this would beat sweeping.:) We have nicknamed the unit "Princess" as in: "suck it up, Princess"

It really is an amazing product. The first go around the house it sucked up so much that the previous cleaner missed, and the previous cleaner was used right before. Car looks clean again too, well on the inside at least!

Hopefully mum doesn't mind that I opened the birthday present a few days early! :p

I think your mum would be pleased that you were taking advantage of a great labour-saving device. I'm only sorry that we did not get one years earlier.

What's the noise level like on the newer models? I've got a DC23 (about 6 years old) and have to say it has gotten quite noisy - particularly the turbo brush.

Looks like my approx 11 year old Asko front washer may have given up the ghost. Service repairman coming Wednesday but I have decided that if the repair is going to cost more than $400 I am going to buy a new one instead. The problem is, what to buy? Not interested in top loader, I'm a front loader girl only. Have a matching Asko dryer which sits on top but dont suppose that really matters, would consider any other brand. I believe the newer Asko's are not made in Scandinavia anymore so are not as good??

Is it as noisy as a DC3?

Having nothing to compare it to it's hard to say, however it's definitely quieter than the old one I pulled around by a hose, but that was probably 10 years old! When I put it on the power setting it gets noticeably louder, but not that bad, you just feel the air moving out of it :p

Perhaps a look at Masters? Should be at least 10% off plus another 5% off with discounted WW gift cards.

we have a Miele - had a number Fisher Paykels - really loved them, but they kept breaking down. Decided to go with a front loader Miele and it has been good. Tries to be too water efficient though - I always press the extra water button, to get a really good rinse, but then I don't use the Miele powders, so maybe that is the problem. Apart from that washes well and is quiet.

I had the same thing happen this week, my 7kg Fisher & Paykel about 8 years old the door switch went. Was going to be over a week to get a new switch, and was old enough I decided just to replace it - save no washing for a week, etc.

I decided to go with the Samsung AddWash 11kg front loader from Harvey Norman which was the cheapest source except Appliances Online which was about $20 cheaper but I could not get the unit same day. I did stop into Masters which is just up the road from me, but they have a fixed 10% off the listed price for everything in store at the moment and they no longer can price match, and are not empowered to do any deals. This price was about $150 more than the Harvey Norman price (excluding the cash back stuff, which would be eligible with either store) -- and it was for the last unit on the floor, which had some noticable scratches & scuffs from people. Needles to say I forwent that option! [though I understand why they are doing this to stop employees just running stuff out.. seems a bit stupid!]

This washer seems good so far, my main gripe is that if you open the app to check the time left on the cycle it reliably takes (no joke) about 57 seconds to connect. But not a deal breaker given no one else really offers this and it's not exactly core functionality :-) A push notification to let you know Cycle Done (which seems to arrive fairly quickly) is however a nice feature!

Fiance loves the AddDoor as this was her most frequent complaint about my front loader versus the top loader she was used to using forever, though to be honest the number of times I've personally wanted to add something is minimal so I don't think I'll use it much, but it was good for the acceptance factor :-)

We got a V6 a few months ago and we love it. Perfect for our long staircase, perfect for the car. Only it's relatively short charge is annoying. V8 is sold as 40 minute charge. It'll be interesting to know if it does last that long.
