Roomba, Dysons, Thermomix and other household appliances

I see it!!

Soups and casseroles for the first month of a Tmix ownership then I can see going back to normality after the novelty has worn offo_O
thats the problem of course. If the person using it doesn’t generally make those things, then the danger is it becomes an expensive toy. Mine has been going flat chat for 4 years already and I am getting my money’s worth. :)

Edit - Dr FM is a changed person since she got hers and uses it all the time. Ms FM less successful, but I hope once she has her new house and a kitchen that you can move in she will become more enthusiastic. At the moment she tends to raid my fridge - she walked off with my broccoli and apple soup on Wednesday

Soups I make in winter - going to make pumpkin soup tomorrow, since my new pumpkin tree has decided to give me pumpkin fruit.

I can’t see myself doing soups and casseroles for years.

Apart from the Tmix do you need to get other accessories at further cost?
Nothing you need to get.

There is a couple of things you can get but don’t necessarily need. Ie we don’t have them.
NB I having to ask SWMBO the answers to these.

It seems that to just purchase one, you gotta do an in-house demo, organise a thermomix party.
So @straitman can use it then the implication is that anyone can use it. So a party to demonstrate the various functions is not necessary. So is it possible to get one without all the extra palava?
I attended a thermomix party and was able to purchase on the spot. I didn’t. I decided they’d be great for a new household and no need to buy many of the usuals with a tmix. But younguns setting up a new household aren’t going to be able to afford $2000 on it.

Wasn’t there an issue not too far back with some Thermomix machines blowing the top off and scalding people?
Thermomix ordered to pay penalties of more than $4.6 million

Even now I’m unconvinced that the Aust distributor hasbeen entirely honest about the dodgy Tmix and the offer to replace some unite for free belies a knowledge that there are other problems. Additionally there have been I think unscrupulous behaviour to offload old stock when they knew about a new model

Are there any Tmix competitors?

there are, but I haven’t looked at them. Choice did a comparison and Thermomix was rated at 91%, with Tefal cuisine at 82% and KitchenAid 80% - same prices.

As far as “extras” go - yes all sorts of things, but the only one I have bought is the “Cook Key”

many recipes are in the machine, so you have a screen and you page through the recipe.

E.g. it will say add 50g onions (it weighs for you) and a garlic and then you go next and it sets the controls for 3 secs chop at 5. Nothing stopping you just using it and setting the controls yourself, but you get used to having it done for you :). Anyway what they now have is an online recipe site and the cook key attaches to the machine and you can access the site via wifi and download any recipe you like. Also when shopping you can access the site and check what you need to buy. The cook key also allows you to create your own lists, so i have my recipes segmented into things like “soups” “buns” “curry”. etc - makes it easy to select the recipe.

So when I made Mr FM make a Stroganoff the other day, all he had to do was turn on the machine, select the recipe and do what the machine told him - totally idiot proof :)

Maybe I could think of investing when we finally downsize. Would be nice to have a new appliance and toss away all the other ones. But I love cooking curries in my creuset pot which I guess already eliminates the thermo for curries.

Le Creuset pots - they are just fantastic. Maybe I’ll offer up more Le Creuset stuff - that might just keep Tmix at bay.

I think you will regret getting rid of a creuset pot.
Friggen expensive. I have a large stock pot and a smaller one for curries. Used them two or three times a week for years esp the smaller one.

But cheaper than TMix and bigger volumes than Tmix I reckon. And stylish enough to bring to table.
One of the kids uses the large stock pot one to boil 1 egg because it’s easier to get out of the drawer - as it’s the only thing in that drawer. Obviously then uses the largest ring in the induction stove as well

We also got the red Le Creuset kettle - have never used it but it looks good as an ornament on the induction stove

I’ve bought most of mine in the US and lugged them home, so much cheaper. Love them for slow cooking and curries.

Quite a few posts discussing Thermomixes have been moved from the Chit Chat thread. There was also some related discussion which has also been moved for continuity.
