Row 3 on the VA 737-800 and 737-900, very good isn't it?

I have not sat in those rows yet, but have some VAd flights coming up, ADL - MEL and ADL - SYD.
Have paid $29 and $39 on top of some points plus pay bookings I have.
What are the opinions of those seats on the narrow body planes.
VA calls them Y+ I believe nowadays. Of course I do realise no bonus VFF bonus points or bonus SC for being in row 3, and no "free" lounge access, but that is only $65 per entry.

VA don't have any 737-900's at this stage. Row three has lots of leg room but it also have non-movable armrests, so if you are wide these aren't very good seats to get. The tray table also flips up out of the armest and is a tiny, flimsy plastic thing that's less stable and smaller than a normal tray table. Also, unless you board first a heap of DYKWIA's will stow their bags in your overhead lockers before strutting down to the overwings to take their seat. Unless the FA's are vigilant in policing this you will basically be sitting in row three with all your bags stowed behind row 5.

Given it's VA I wouldn't be relying on the vigilance of the FA to ensure you have overhead bin space. Some will do it, others just won't care and will happily stow your bags for you in row 15. I've seen DYKWIAs stowing their bags in business class and strutting down to the overwings without being pulled up.

Yesterday, my husband flew from SYD-OOL and texted me from the gate. But he treated himself to the J seat and was looking forward to a nice flight. He is a very laid back accidental WP, so there's no ego involved.

He reported that, when he reached the gate (20 mins before flight time) - he was 18th in line for the Priority Queue. The guy in front had a BP for row 30 - when he reached the cabin - he swung his bag up and into my husbands row 2 locker and promptly strolled down to his seat.

Now, there were only 4 pax in J. So my question is this: Why would a WP or SG (sitting in Y) jump to the head of the line and stow their stuff up the front if they're first on the aircraft and all lockers are free and available? Wouldn't the empty compartment above their actual seat do?

And for the record - I think it's shameful that a Business Class pax isn't designated first. There's only 8 seats - surely the call for anyone with a J BP would trump any WP in Y............

It really takes the lustre off paying $$$ for the experience. A first World problem I know, sorry for the rant.

Ive read on FlyerTalk about people taking out the bag, putting it in the aisle and telling the FA that it belongs to someone way at the back.

Although these days, it might result in the plane being evacuated, just never know.

I prefer the "I found this unattended bag..." line, but I think that has a greater likelihood of causing an evacuation these days

My guess, because people feel entitled these days. I've seen far greater acts of selfishness but selfishness is what it is unfortunately. Apparently it's too hard for these individuals to carry their bag to their seat and stow it where it belongs. Just another example of the me, me, me culture we're all living in.

Move it back a few rows and watch him panic when he goes to get it and it isn't there.

This isn't a VA specific problem. I don't know of any airlines that separate J pax and elite FF pax when doing priority boarding. Your husband might get even more upset on some airlines (ie CX) where if he is holding a J ticket, he will board after Y pax with OWE (Diamond status). On some CX routes, this can be 20 passengers long too.

You'd think by now that they'd have a remote controlled lock on the business class overheads that can be opened by the FA when required and not by every individual that happens to walk through the cabin. Such a simple solution.

When I do a day trip for work with just my satchel with a laptop/book etc. I tend to try for Row 4, they tended to have a bit more legroom anyway prior to Economy X, and I could stow my satchel under the seat - no dramas with overhead lockers, and whilst I appreciate the legroom on Row 3 I don't particularly like the hard armrests and the tray table. Haven't done one yet since the introduction of Economy X but I have some leisure travel booked for June in Row 4 with Lady Lenny, so I assume it will be the same, just with more legroom.

Then again I'm WP (for now at least) so I can usually get overhead locker space with priority boarding if needed - allegedly they will now be reserving the lockers for Economy X pax, but I don't know how well this will be/is being monitored.

Given their track record in monitoring the business lockers, I'd say this particular promise is more along the lines of wishful thinking than anything that's going to occur.

I certainly wouldn't be banking on it but then again I really don't like having to fight for locker space - a lot of the time if I'm travelling domestically with a roll aboard I'll check it and be done, it's usually just clothes and a sponge bag anyway.

When they have sufficient FAs to do so, I've been on a number of airlines where they will have one FA greeting at the door, and will keep the J lockers closed until someone presents a J BP and the "second" FA will scurry in front of the J pax and open the locker for them.

Protects the lockers for J.


Doesn't stop the pax in 30 putting the bag above 3.

Just flew it today MKY-BNE, I used the fly ahead benefit to catch an earlier flight and ended up in 5A. Every row behind me was full, rows 3-5 all had vacant middle seats. i could get used to that

If you have paid for Economy X then the cost also includes priority boarding.

The storage bins above also have prominent "Economy X" stickers on them, which is meant to deter the common folk from putting their bags there. The FA's are also meant to police it.
