Hi Everyone

Have been looking at booking RTW Oneworld Business Flights & I notice you can't get Business flying internally in US as they only have Economy & First.

I noticed when you go on the Oneworld sight to book with money they upgrade you to First when you want to fly business if there is no business available, is there a way for this to happen when using points.

Thanks

Craig

The short answer is "No". On a OW RTW Reward itinerary you can never be upgraded beyond the class of your ticket. The only way you can get to fly in those AA first cabins is for your entire itinerary to be a F Award at 420K points. If you are on a J award and there is no J cabin you will have to fly in Y. Note that there are some routes where AA does have 3 class flights (Y, J & F) - notably LAX - JFK.

Very few domestic US flights have business class, most of the airlines in the US, where 2 class flights are operated, sell them as Economy & First. The US domestic "first" is generally what would be considered domestic business in Australia.
For example, AA only sells business class domestically on JFK-LAX/SFO and selected LAX-MIA flights. These flights are 3 class.
If they use the same aircraft for JFK-DFW and DFW-MEX, the same seat would be sold as first for JFK-DFW and as business for DFW-MEX.

oneworld fare products (eg, oneworld explorer "round the world") have a rule that states when a business class trip is booked, US domestic flights book into First on 2 class flights, provided the needed first class booking code is available.
As you appear to be trying to get an award, you'll only be able to book domestic US business class on the above mentioned flights (A321 JFK-LAX/SFO, 777 LAX-MIA).

Just thinking outside the box - IIRC you are able to put surface segments into OW RTW tickets? If so, you could do your own arrangements for internal USA sections, and pay for those separately to get F.

Using QFF you could also try the QF LAX-JFK flight if flying into LAX on QF to get a Business award.Doesn't help if you want to see different parts of the US.

If you book a revenue oneworld RTW J ticket, you don't need to book separate flights to get F in USA. It books into F as per the fare rules (provided it is a 2 class flight and the A booking code is available (It should be noted that while AA does not sell J on these flights, the QF codeshares do)).
The issue for the OP appears to be that the ticket they want is an award using points.

Yeah - I meant award tickets for a surface sector.
