Ruby's dress code beef with Qantas | Courier Mail
"You can't be upgraded in ripped denim," he said with a chuckle. "They were her Milk and Honey jeans [but] she ended up flying business.
Confidential had heard Rose had been upgraded on the staff benefits of a friend, which was why she was bound by dress restrictions.
"If you were a full-fare paying customer you could wear what you want, within reason," an airport insider confirmed.
Hmmm.

Staff travellers have a pretty strict dress code, and this just seems like a 'star' knowingly breaching these rules.

I'd guess this is one of those areas where the airport staff would probably show quite a bit of flexibilty in general.

WTF? Who is she really? And since when did staff get to give free upgrades to friends?

I totally understand the benefits of staff travel but free upgrades to your mates when you can't get staff travel for family over a certain age... that is a little bit more important to me than whether a "celebrity" didnt get her upgrade because of her outdated/rehashed style...

How about making more seats available for points upgrades rather then this use. :?:

There's nothing in the article saying it was free. I know staff are able to buy seats at a steep discount for a limited number of named other people, possibly they can buy upgrades for those people at a discount as well. Although I think the discount isn't all it's cracked up to be. I have family in the UK who work for BA and tend to buy tickets on EasyJet because they're cheaper than the discount seats they get on BA when flying inside Europe.

Exactly my thoughts.
She did get her upgrade it says in the article depite the checkin agent saying she did not meet the dress code. She had also been upgraded LAX-SYD.

She may be someone's beneficiary, but staff travel and DYKWIA are incompatible - if she thinks that highly of herself, she should be on a commercial fare, or else buckle up and deal with the restrictions that are the trade-off for travel benefits.

Pardon my ignorance, is Ruby Rose someone important, or just in her own mind.

Never heard of her until I saw the article this morning, so maybe its all in her head

She is a fashion leader for today's youth. Has just done gigs at myer in Adelaide and I assume in other Myer stores around Australia. Has her own fashion label. I'm reliably informed that the young lesbians in sydney all try to copy her look. So pop icon/ singer is the claim to fame. Wouldn't have expected many of her people would be sitting the J.

Edit: Noveau rich

I wasn't right she is an MTV VJ not singer. (get it right!)

Wikipedia is interesting. God-daughter of Lionel Rose. Great granddaughter of Alec Campbell. Born 1986.

Apparently between age 12 and 16 was taunted and abused by school mates for being gay? Ended up in hospital at 16. Sure I could understand that when I went to school in the 1970s and early 1980s but this would have been 1998 to 2002.

I read all that too, but basically discovered she isn’t anything that famous… she wants to be a singer, but can’t play any instruments :p

Oh, and I was taunted and abused when I went to school in the UK, HK, and Australia in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. It still happens now, though some schools are nicer and some worse than others.

Wow, here I was thinking kids were smarter than in my day.

I guess none of us knew of her celebrity status, I just checked the "seen someone famous" thread and she doesn't appear there. haha.

No, if I seen her during travels I'd probably be thinking "who goes out in public dressed like that?".

But like others here, I'm obviously not in her target demographic because the name means absolutely nothing to me :)

Like you said, it has a lot to do with the school itself, the students within and of course how the school deals with those students.

It has now been 9 years since I finished school (2001; in Western Sydney). One interesting observation based on talks with old friends who still live in the area is that some of the students who were responsible for abuse later dealt with their own insecurities and came out themselves. Go figure.
