Clearly the economics don't work, otherwise it would have been done by now and SQ would be switching out of a 345 into a 777LR if it were a run away success, instead of scraping their ultra long hauls altogether.
However until you try it don't knock it. In recent years I have done Singapore to New York or vv in business class non stop, via FRA and via HKG. In business class I would chose the non stop every single time if I could. It's amazing how quick the time passes and your sleep isn't interrupted by stops (which add a couple of hours to the trip and often occur at inconvenient times). Now in economy of course it would be a different matter! (Although I think I could survive it in an exit row)
