I still prefer Boeing despite all that bad cough that hit fan. Still prefers the 737Max then an A320 .....yes training is required. Now with all this Viral C19 stuff will set it back ages.

The 737 Max is an inherently flawed aircraft. It has nothing to do with training. The A320, and specifically the NEO which is the actual competitor to the Max is a couple of generations later. Vastly superior aircraft, with an actual FBW system not a single channel make believe. Boeing wasted years, and vast billions, when it should have been designing a replacement for the 737, which is after all, a mid 60s design with a lot of make up.

Do not believe this rumour

1. QF already announced the A350-1000 for Project Sunrise
2. QF also advised 2023 launch.

While I admit and understand this was before the current COVID crisis and thus feelings on non stop flights sooner rather than later would seem nice.. the 777-X has only just had a test flight recently.. it's first flights aren't scheduled for another year or so and tht's not taking into account that Boeing is currently shut down more or less.. the chances of QF getting some shells in 18 months to fly such a route are, imo, slim.

Still you never know.. given the MAX issues Boeing may well have offered QF a price they just could not refuse for a small fleet of dedicated aircraft.. it would be interesting where that would leave Airbus but I suppose they could convert to a bunch of 330neo or 321XLR's

so anything's possible.. but for me nope doesn't pass my (socially isolated at home) pub test

Boeing designs and engineers and manufacturers superb aircraft," Carey testified. "Unfortunately in the case of the Max, I'll have to agree with the Boeing CEO, they let the traveling public down in a fatal and catastrophic way."

Carey told the committee that the MCAS flight control system, which was designed to prevent an aerodynamic stall, was flawed in that it had a single point of failure without redundancies. In the case of both the Lion Air flight in Indonesia and the Ethiopian Airlines plane, a single angle of attack sensor provided faulty data to the system, so the MCAS forcefully and repeatedly pointed the nose of the plane down when it shouldn't have.

Check the date on the first post in this thread.. It's from 2013, well before the Sunrise competition even started.

As for Covid-19, I think it will mean Sunrise won't happen in this era.
QF will be better off picking up cheap widebodies (either 350 or 777s) and narrowbodies in the future market which is going to see airlines looking to sell planes, and cancel orders (as they picked up cheap 737s from a cancelled/transferred AA order after 9/11).

Wait until Airbus produces the 350neo and possibly add extra tanks - it will be a far less compromised aircraft for Sunrise.

And as we saw with the few A380 SYD-DRW-LHR splash and dash runs - existing aircraft can fly direct without a stopover.
