With the ground coming up so fast ( due to the steepness of the slope), it would be very doubtful that they could have cleared it anyway, but I'm not sure how you would visually miss an earth wall right in front you.

But Markis pretty much nailed it. Highest terrain in area is 6300 and they were given clearance for 6000. It doesn't take a maths genius to work out that one.

It still doesn't make sense..obviously something or someone went amiss... What an avoidable tragedy..

I think fog/cloud was mentioned at the time it went missing/the search was on.

However, knowing there’s high mountains in the area, if it was cloudy why would you risk decent when you don’t need to? I’m guessing as alluded to by markis10 above that it had something to do with showing off to those on board.

Hopefully we’ll find out some day.
 
As sad as it is, it will hopefully ensure that none of the bigger airlines will even think about buying some of those "super"jets so save a few bucks. Just wait for the first Chinese passenger jets make history with a splendid safety record! :eek:

Even if this accident has nothing to do with the actual plane itself?
