Thanks Mr Qantas.

Yes, SQ are not concerned about safety one bit! They are a death trap.
I don't think that was necessarily inferred, however if you do look around SQ006, there is a little bit of info that suggests that some of the crew froze during the whole accident.

I am quite aware of SQ006 but thanks for the tip.

Thanks Mr Qantas.

Firstly do not infer that i work or am "Mr Qantas". I actually work in the media. Secondly I have been involved in aviation for over 15 years and fly myself.

Thirdly I did not infer SQ are not concerned about safety.. In their cabin crew service appears over safety. My example was indeed SQ006, which I had discussed recently with 767 Captain.

You made the assertion the QF is a weirdo airline for cabin crew demonstrating it. I am yet to see an airline NOT have the crew demonstrate. CX and Jet airways did on my last trips with them.

yes, love the overseas maintenance cough! Perhaps every airline on the planet should send their aircraft to Australia. Because according to some, unless your plane is maintained in Australia - you are most likely going to suffer a fatal crash. Never mind the fact that not one single commercial jet in Australia was ever BUILT in this country. We seem to be ok with buying overseas designed and built aircraft but god help us if we maintain them there too.

And unfortunately every time an incident occurs, the union come out and try and politicise it and prey on the masses who don't know better.

Well SQ, TG and NZ did not on my last trips with them. I find it pointless. And I couldn't care less if the crew were upset I didn't watch the video or watch them wave towards the back of the plane to tell me there is an exit somewhere down that way.

I never said you worked for Qantas. Do you work for SQ? You seem to know much about their policies and procedures. Please share more.

I understand Qantas pay by the time used - i.e by the hour.

I expect it's rather a complex formula, but it relates thrust used against time. So, there is a cost advantage to using derated climb thrust settings, as well as take off derates. So, I guess if you had a time vs power graph, you'd be paying for the area under the line....

Sorry you find the safety demo pointless. You might suddenly see its relevance if you were involved in a serious incident and had to evacuate the aircraft.

If you had followed the discussion, I was talking about the crew standing in the aisle during a video demo. Not referring to the safety demonstration entirely. But good on you for putting words into my mouth!

After flying 100,000 miles a year for many years I am quite aware of how to get out of an aircraft by the way.

Obviously you didn't read who I work for.

Don't worry, I have followed this whole thread and am well aware of your attitude towards safety demonstrations by crew. Fortunately most of us don't share your view. :D

No need to put words in your mouth, it's there in black and white. You find the crew demo pointless and you don't care it they are upset about you not watching. The fact that you don't watch, doesn't exactly suggest you think it is a useful exercise.

Ill make my position clear since it is being misinterpreted by some.... i think the safety demo if done on video does not require crew in the aisle as well. I did not say the safety demo is pointless. It is obviously essential for non frequent flyers. I pay little attention to it personally as I could almost recite it Line by line. I am therefore not worried if the flight attendant sees me ignoring it. Numerous people here, mentioned in this thread said one of the main reAsons to watch it is so the flight attendant isn't upset.... I find that utterly ridiculous .

Yes nlagelle I didn't read who you work for. I will ask you again how you know sq place service above safety?

You may think you are - it's all well and good to think you would know what to do but history shows that most people don't, even those that think they are experienced flyers.

Both the QF30 and recently the domestic incident last week both had cases of passengers not knowing what to do when the masks dropped. Virgin also reported the same when they had the masks drop on a flight a few years ago.

In many case studies that I have read or seen about in my training, passengers have quite often caused serious evacuations to be worse because of what they "thought" they should do despite crew instructions telling them not to do it.

Even CASA recognizes this
CASA said:
Individual passengers have a large, (typically negative) impact on the conduct of emergency evacuations, resulting from their general naiveté regarding aircraft emergencies and ignorance of proper procedures needed to cope with such circumstances

As mentioned in an earlier post - not every passenger can see a video screen.

dazz81, the previous posts have clearly demonstrated that you have a rather flippant and cavalier attitude to safety, if not in aviation then in general.

Yes you might recite it line by line, but do you know you can act on it? sure you know which way is the quickest exit? When i used to skydive we would drill our emergency procedures for our reserve parachutes before getting in the plane. Unless you had a reserve ride you would never know if you could pull those handles or freeze up.

Maybe a bit of a bold statement, however having read and spoken to industry people about SQ006, their own cabin crew couldn't cope with an emergency. However I also didn't say they ignore safety either.

And with your attitude to the safety brief, I hope you never have to act on it.

Actually, it's essential for ALL passengers and crew - even those who think they know it all.

Arrogance and ignorance can be a lethal combination.

They sure can.

I hope the crew watch the video before each flight. Sometimes I forget how to put on my seatbelt, so i just leave it off.
