Safety First

The CSM actually tells/signals the coughpit when they are finished.

we were on LAN recently out of IPC and the safety video went several minutes after takeoff which was so strange to us, but no one else seemed to notice

It is a little long though. Just worried the FA's have enough time to show it and sit down before take off.

For those keeping score, you may have noticed that the sequence of actions in the new video has changed slightly.

On a Qantas flight, cabin crew are required to demonstrate the seat belt, oxygen mask, life jacket and signalling the exits. These aspects now appear altogether, and in the first half of the video. This will allow crew to continue with their other pre-departure checks and get the flight away quicker.

Also, keep in mind that the video onboard will be shorter, appropriate to the aircraft type, and duration of the journey.

While this is an extended version for promotional use, you’ll see one of over 70 variations appropriate to the aircraft type and duration of the journey you’re on.

And yes, some of them will feature Canberra. :)

Where..??..??

Excellent video. Nice to see Airlines doing something different to actually get peoples attentions. I was on a QR flight recently and their one is all about the Barcelona soccer team. I looked around the cabin and every single person was watching. I reckon this will have the same affect. Good job Qantas.

I did notice the sequence change too and thanks for telling us about the behind the scenes of the safety demo :D

its not your job to fix stupidity outside the workplace

All Qantas Group employees are responsible for reporting unsafe behaviours, ensuring a safe workplace and encouraged to look out for colleagues.

More than a cliché, safety is our number one priority number and taken very seriously in both professional and personal situations.

Thanks to clazman for bringing it to my attention. The described behaviour not only extremely dangerous, but illegal too.

Just watched the safety video (youtube not onboard). Great video, I really like the Australian feel to it and the personal atmosphere. Well done!

Wasn't this supposed to debut on board Feb 1?

had 2 flights on Wed (3rd) and old videos....

And there was a new video on VH-VXL this morning. Very Ozzie, or perhaps Queenslanderish, with cutting off word endings - perhaps that should be endin'. Maybe they saw the recent research that people who use Aussie slang are more likeable.

You tube blocked at work, maybe Red Roo can post a link or something

I think I understand all the bits in the FA presented safety briefing except for where they point and wave towards the floor to show where they emergency lighting will be.

the videos are all fairly well done but i still think the one that coincided with the A380 launch was the best/most professional ("Hello again...") https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_8J38YwE6M

after that the language starting going a bit wonky ("seatbelts done up low & tight, including infants and children...") also some of the staff who appear in the current ones seem to struggle a bit with speaking on camera (or have rather strong ocker tones) which grates with repeated viewing

Did you miss the following story?

Using Aussie slang makes you more likable to your fellow Aussie cobbers – but only if you use a fair dinkum Aussie accent.

They also found it helps the dreaded foreigners

The same experiment was conducted in Melbourne with an Australian actor of Asian descent. The findings showed that if she used slang in her Australian English accent participants liked her more; if she used slang in a foreign accent it had no impact.

BTW I love the picture they used to illustrate that story. hee hee hee
