Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 or iPad2?

There is another thing I did not factor in the calculation. Is the standard cover sufficient?

Also if I buy a $360 iPad2 on internet it costs $38 to deliver! Surely they jest. Now way jose.

Big W has them for $398 + $8 delivery or if I can find them in store even better. And I should be able to purchase $400 wish card from Big W and earn 800 Amex MR points and then also receive at least 368 QFF points. And tomorrow is also $10 off after 5pm.

Anyone see them cheaper elsewhere?

The iPad does not come with a cover, so you would need to fork out for that. Maybe $30-40.

No rush. I will wait for the real Christmas Sales next week and see if there are any bargains.

I'm looking for a good place to get the best price on an Ipad mini from the US.

Does anyone have any experience w' that recently? Is it in fact cheaper in the US - any drawbacks?

(I just joined MyUs with Visa free for 2 years).

Well they start at 329 USD (Converting to $327 at today's CBA rate of 0.9941) over there and 369AUD here. So there's about $40 saving already, but you have to consider how much it's going to cost to get shipped here. The net result could be you've spent the same amount for an ipad mini with a useless power adapter.

Don't forget, you'll need to add the relevant State Sales tax as well.

If you don't know someone that's in the USA, it's not usually a better deal for something that cheap.

And buying here just before heading o/s will allow you to recover the GST, lessening the difference.

Thanks for savings suggestions. I am still equivocating as I'm on windows on the desk top and will need an easy transition due to my basic skills in this area.

If you want easy transition then best to get it sorted before you go. iTunes works fine on windows pc's. I prefer android as I don't like the iTunes set up but android takes a bit more getting used to.

I assume iTunes is all about music which I won't be using. I do need access to word docs, Outlook and travel apps, download photos - basic stuff.

And apps, photos, videos etc. you can get photos on in other ways but iTunes is the main interface. I loathe it.

iTunes is the software hub used to connect your ipad to your PC/Mac. You don't have to use it often unless you want to transfer pics/music/apps etc which can be a lot when you first you get the ipad.

If you have basic skills I would strongly suggest the ipad - it just works. The ipad mini IMO is the perfect travel size and weight, buy it here (Target/Big W are the cheapest) then get the GST refund when you go OS from the TRS counter at the airport after customs. Much better to get it set up here ready to go rather than opening it mid-trip and trying to get up to speed.

A 3G iPad will allow you to bypass iTunes for much of what you want. You can shop on the app store and download apps direct. iTunes is good to help manage the device - music, movies, apps, photos and so forth - but not mandatory.

The prices of Apple products don't vary from store to store by much, so if you purchase from Big W and you have an EDR card, you will pick up about 700 QFF points.
