Scams like these

AGL has a new logo.
Wonder how long before the scammers will start copying the new logo and start their games with the new logo on the top of "invoices"/letters.

This one today made me think. A zip file attachment though and due in 2 days. And a bit messy.

A new way for one of my clients to contact me - his PA sending me an email asking me to open a PDF file through Google Drive. Normally I initiate most calls, or he'd send me a wordy email with beautiful signature. This one was brevity to the extreme for them, so I smelled a rat. Checked with the PA, sure enough a scam - I saw that the permissions were from an .in address so that clinched it:

I have a gumtree account but up until recently, didn't have an ebay or paypal account. I got a $20 coupon code from gumtree which could be used on ebay but only if you clicked paypal as a method of payment. I decided to use the coupon and ended up getting a paypal account and used the guest checkout on ebay. The coupon worked so I don't think the gumtree email was a scam.

My issue is whether having a paypal account means I am more likely to get scam paypal emails asking me to confirm or change my details etc. I've heard about these scam emails but don't know whether they are just sent randomly trying to find someone with a paypal account or whether the scammers sniff the other email addresses which are used for paypal and target these addresses in the scam emails.

Is there anyone out there who gets pay pal scams but doesn't have a paypal account? What other experiences are out there?

Got an email while in HNL on 19th June from energy Australia saying that I had a bill due of $761.32. This annoyed me a bit because I didn't have my meter details handy. I am an Origin customer. When I arrived home three days later I rang Origin who informed me that I was in credit. (I have a 3 kW solar system and solar hot water). I went to energy Australia's website where there was a banner saying that there had been numerous complaints of bill scams and to report it to scam watch which I did.

A record in the last 24 hours.Wanted by 18 women.
I would be afraid of Stella who wanted a slave to play games.:shock:
But Isabella told me her husband was away from home for a weak!needs to brush up on her spelling.
Wow, that's impressive drron - 18 women give or take the odd S and M one. :)

Drron, I think she did not finish the sentence (excited) and really meant to say was away because of a weak heart. I have to say I am not surprised.

Now Rons girls are emailing me - just got one from Alexandra - "a blue eyed girl from Russia" but her email is info@TYPHOID dot pl - who would respond to that !!!!!!!!!

I'm getting spook enquiries to my website (filling out the response form). Think I'll pass on this one:

Hi there,

I would like to initiate contact to discuss about our channel services which can help you tie up with reputed and reliable lead generators and appointment setters (for Investment Property).

Let me know the best medium to reach you at with more information.

Cheers!
Anna

Well the best medium I knew lived in Goodna, damn she was accurate - perhaps she can help me reach you Anna and tell you and your like to blank off.

Another from an unknown origin (.com address, that's unusual) telling me that an email address that I don't have (accounting@mybusinessname) has just sent me a Google Doc.

Ah no thanks, I'll pass on opening it.

We have had one of those. However our enquiry was made from an email address from another financial planning group. So I phoned and asked to speak to the person involved, they have had their email hacked and knew nothing about the enquiry to me.

I keep getting a spam message claiming to be from Amazon about a canceled order. Hovering produces something like Bolsheviks as the originator. The message has too many doubtful links to bother posting. The supposed supplier changes with every new version.

For the last month or so I have been averaging about one a day, and sometimes up to three a day. Is anyone else getting similar spam?
