Scams like these

That's the strange part. I don't have an Apple accountt.

Someone got your email address from somewhere, somehow and the hacker/scammer is trying trick you into giving up your password. Time to delete them "photos" off the icloud.

Which photos? I don't use the icloud.

Email account is the only thing I use and I have a lot of old emails but don't even use things like Skydrive.

Just making a little joke as recently a number of celebs had their accounts hacked and their pictures stolen.

This one here confused the hell out of me this morning.

I have 7 emails from Apple and could simply be a case of typing error or scam.

The first 3 emails are addressed to me in Greek that an Apple Id has been created and that I have been connected to Facetime, iMessage and iCloud. Now the funny thing is the email used for Apple ID is "[email protected]" but my email is "[email protected]".

Then another 4 emails that the Apple ID password has been reset?, how to reset the password, verify apple ID and Apple ID has been updated. Each one mentions the Apple ID as "[email protected]". And where as first 3 emails were in Greek this one has my name in Greek but body of email in English.

Strange. What is going on? I am guessing one of my cousins or nephews have setup Apple ID and somewhere has left out a dot in the email address and I am getting emails?

Or is it scam?

One thing I did long time ago was signup my first name, last name without dot in between to email addresses I thought important to me.

think it's a scam. i had an email overnight supposedly from apple telling me to reset my password

email overnight telling me i'm due for a refund on my tollway charges. apparently i was overcharged on a French Tollway - shame i've never been on that road

I had to change my Apple ID password today as I couldn't access the App Store. Said my account had been suspended. Legit!

I don't know. It seems weird. I tried to update the apps and the app store came up with the message that my account had been put on hold. I then had to re enter a new password with 8 digits and a cap. My previous one was just five and no cap. I tried redoing my original password and it said I had to change it.

This wasn't via a dodgy email but the App Store itself. I guess maybe it was hacked?

I put a lounge for sale on gumtree. Got an enquiry, so I replied with details and this is the correspondence I got

SCAM

If ever in doubt - never click any link in the email. To be absolutely safe - close browser, restart computer (device), run virus scan (if really cautious) and then find the phone number for company (Apple in this case) and call them if you have any doubt. Otherwise 99.99%+ of these emails are scams.

What you've described is definitely a scam. Call Apple and ask if they want it forwarded to their security area. A number of companies I've contacted have requested me to on-send to them.

I have been receiving those emails on and off for three months - it is a scam. They had a link to click to 'reset password'. Called Apple - confirmed a scam.

I really, really hope you did not click the link.

If in any doubt - call Apple. If you did click - call Apple right now.

I've warned some AFF'ers in other threads who've been describing how they create their passwords or what security questions they use.

Really some people just need to put a sign up outside their home saying;

"Please come and clean me out as I've not locked the door and I work from 8am to 6pm."

Scamming is a multi-billion dollar business unfortunately. Just like legitimate businesses there are some extremely professional scammers and then there are the fly-by-nights.

Same for SWMBO and I, but in a two step process, the first email was actually fairly normal, we were a bit hesitant but replied... Then we got a reply similar to somebol and saw the scam right away.

Except that it wasn't an email. It was through the App Store itself when I went to update previously downloaded apps.

I received one of those dodgy emails just this morning and it was completely different to the situation I just described.

I've had similar a long time ago with Apple forcing me to upgrade the security of my password. Was very concerned and called apple at the time.

Clearly you've replied to a post that wasn't about an email. Apple may be a scam, but it's not a scam to phish for your iTunes account password.

As someone who has described how I set my passwords. Please do tell me even one of my passwords. Big hint, to make it easy, you need to know the number plate on the car I owed 24 years ago.
