Scams like these

I think Memphis TN is a major distribution point for several organisations. So this might fool some people.

Ive been inundated with robot calls threatening that my NBN is about to be shut down due to suspicious search history and mentions of the Federal police.

I live for the day I dont have to use the NBN (so many issues with it) and
1, nothing in this household is in my name or my contact details and
2, unless Coach, Oroton and Burberry outlets/sales are suspicious internet history then Ive got nothing to worry about

Yes, I've had a host of them as well, now getting one coming through at least every week. More annoying are the mystery calls from mystery numbers, several a day, that drop out when you answer. When you call the number back you are told the number is disconnected (i.e. spoofed). I'm thinking I might just stop answering the phone to unknown numbers.

Is this driving others crazy too?

Cheers skip

The problem with just not answering your phone is I am finding that many legitimate businesses (e.g. your doctor, dentist, car dealer for repairs) - the person calling you uses their personal mobile instead of their business number so the caller seems to be unknown. However, I never answer my landline but do answer my mobile (where almost all legitimate calls come in).

I don't answer "unknown" numbers. If you don't want me to know who you are, I have no interest in talking to you. Simple. Unrecognized numbers just go to Voicemail.

WFH in Melbourne means using my personal mobile for all calls. I'm hiding my number. However, if I can leave a message I say my organisation and it's easy enough to check I'm a genuine caller.

Agree. But for quite a while I have not returned a call to private or unknown numbers. If they really want me they will leave a message.

I never answer "Private" numbers. I am receiving several calls a day that are allegedly from numbers numerically close to my number. I just ignore them, wait for the call back text and in the mean time check them on Reverse Australia. If they come up as a genuine number I call them back. If there is no listing I leave it to them to try to call me again, or contact me by another means. If they are genuine they will try again. If they are listed as a scam number or I have no further calls from the number, I block them. Seems to be working and genuine callers understand the reason for the precautions. Telcos are saying they are blocking tens of millions of scam calls each month but there must be many millions still getting through.

and a Florida area code yet is based in Texas, apparently..
Yes it’s so amateurish that I can’t believe it nets them anything. But I guess it must. Probably from poor old duckies that don’t know y
to check these things. It’s really low preying on the vulnerable like that.

We get several of these to landline every day. I never answer now as literally no one but scammers calls the landline. We only keep it as it is free part of a very good (and now) superseded bundle and we checked with the provider and found if we cancel the landline our bill will go up Because we will be put on a newer (more expensive) plan. Now that’s a scam all in and of itself!

We had a plan like that a while back, and just didn't connect a phone.

We have a landline number as part of our package but we have the phone unplugged permanently - my mother used to ring on it so while she was alive we left it but the rest of the calls were scam/unsolicited selling etc. Not worth the grief of the constant disruption.
