Scams like these

Not even slightly convincing

Never seen a card reader as in pix like that.
Don't think a lot of Aussie stores use that sort of EFTPOS reader.

===
The ones I am most used to is the Ingenico brand of EFTPOS machines, with 3 button near the screen type.
A coffee shop in Sydney CBD yesterday. Saw a similar one also in an Asian supermarket in Ryde.

They are around but less common here. I've seen them have larger presence elsewhere.

Usually purchases in those shops are small enough for the simple tap & go but for anything bigger, it still leaves the question open about what's visible to the operator / cashier if the card details are printed at the back. In theory, you could have a CCTV monitor the terminal from behind and record the backsides of the cards.

They say woolworths now has a very cunning anti theft measure.
Not only do they have cameras on the ceilings, tied in to their back office, but also on the serve yourself check out, and it shows your mug shot too, while doing the scanning of your products, look up a bit, and you will see yourself, and its definitely not a mirror.
To bring it back to scams, I guess that unless there is a major overhaul in the mobile phone systems in Aust, we will keep getting the scam phone calls, if its not lintkt, or the ATO/AFP/Auspost, then its "this is a call from the visa and mastercard security centrer, your card has been used fraudently, for service, press 1 to speak with an operator", etc, etc...
Of course we all know here in Aust, its not visa/mastercard who contacts customers, but the banks that issues the card.
Everyday at a bit before 12noon, my parents home phone always gets this recorded message, like clockwork!

It’s the entire world innit, not just Straya?
I’m pretty sure it’s just the standard way landlines & mobiles work, the world over.

I know, I shouldn't waste too much time on Youtube, but there is the ScamBaiter website and its ilk, while its ""probably"" good to waste the scammers time, but also, it does not serve a lot of gain, as the scam calls will keep coming, from India, Africa, Russia, the former USSR to us they call Westerners in the US/Canada/Aust/UK, ...
In the end, the toothless tiger that is the new sub agency of the Aust fed agency ACCC (meaning the Aust Anti Scam Centre) is like the owl that people put on their house roofs, hoping to deter pigeons!
Most state govts in Aust have the seniors card, now some smart muppet somewhere has set up something called (this is the fake one), "seniorscardportal.$$au", remove the money sign, and that is the name they use, and charge $29 for the Seniors Card, that is supposed to be issued by Aust state govts free of charge.
Crooks, crooks, and more crooks.
Oh, and have you seen the number of discarded Coles receipts around singular Coles stores?
All these have the last 4 digits of credit card #s on it!
Other small stores now have receipts that do not have the card numbers used to pay on it.

Best like that Mrs.dr.ron.
I am not "scared" to answer the home phone, I let all calls go to message bank if I don't know the number, ie, I don't answer.
Same for sms, block and delete.
Haven't had the lawyer letter of a dead relo in years.

Because once you "bite" the pshing hook, that's it, nothing can stop the scams.

Linkt anyone?

Just got this one as a new sms a few secs ago.
Someone pretending to be youi as in the insurance co.

Youi Quote. Hi Jess, 17771 is your secure PIN that you need to enter to continue your tailor made quote.
I haven't contacted this number, and I am not Jess either.
Its most likely a scammer that wants me to reply that I am not Jess, and don't know a Jess.
Blocked and deleted.

$150.00 SQ *WHARF ST CAFE Nambucca Heads

I have never used Square. This is now credit card #4 in 12 months. As far as I recall this card was not used in Thailand. Have they loaded my details on Square? How is someone getting my credit card details? Afterpay? Zip?

This is starting to get extremely frustrating.

Square is the small white cube you tap in many smaller retail places, it isn't a place itself. Did you go to that cafe?

I passed Nambucca Heads in 1997. I've been in Brisbane the past 3 months apart from same day return to SYD last month.

Someone is somehow getting my credit card details. This is getting very scary.

Selling an unwanted apple gift card on marketplace

Had to blur my last abusive line out😁
